I had the same problem. I just ran around for a bit, and found this GINORMOUS bedrock wall. I picked up some dirt, scaled it, and found this lake. Upon swimming for a minute or so, I came upon the island. My suggestion? Head east when you first spawn. You'll get to the wall that way ;)
