Note: Due to some dumbhead thinking it was great idea to reset the world this was in, the wasteland no longer exists. -_- Sorry. 

This is the massive, and I MEAN massive, Wasteland. All of this destruction was caused 50 years ago, when a massive meteor struck Minecraftia. It hit the mountains with such force that it caused an earthquake with a magnitude 10.0 on the richter scale!  This resulted in almost every building in the area to completely collapse, and volcanoes to erupt, and entire landscapes to change. Now, you thought that was bad enough, it gets worse. 10 minutes after the earthquake, it started raining meteorites, further destroying buildings, and causing a mass fire that killed all plant life, and brought a strange radioactive virus which mutated everything. The whole place was abandoned and filled with mutants. 5 years after the great disaster, Explorors Derp and Potato discovered what was left in this unforgiving land, and only had fire and mutants and death to greet them. They died 1 day after arriving, and people say you can still hear their yelling near where they first arrived. 10 years after the disaster, another earthquake rocked the wasteland, causing Minecraftia's crust to crack, exposing the core of the world, causing massive lava lakes and rivers to form, making it worse. Nature began to reclaim the remaining buildings and structures, further damaging them.  If thou shalt arrive here, be warned! It is a hostile and unforgiving place, full of mystery and fire.

Yup, just thought I'd give a little backstory.

This is the wasteland I built, using worldedit. It spans 1000x1000 or even more blocks, and it is being turned into the MineCommandHQ Survival Games arena. Watch out for deadly radiation, fire, lava, and traps along the way!
EDIT: We have decided not to turn this into a Survival Games arena due to how dangerous it is and games would only last like, 5 minutes.
