I am idiot, what is the point of an adder? What can you use it for?

When hooked into an intricate circuit or logic, it can be used to count up one. This is basically used in a calculator, it is the adding architecture, meaning it is what actually does all the adding.

Thank you for explaining it too me. :D I am somewhat dense when it comes to red stone and all the possibilities that it represents.

An adder compares two bits (number values in binary) to see if they are the same. If they're not, then it outputs a value of that bit. If they are, then nothing is outputted, and it produces a carry, which activates the next bit, which will be twice as large as the previous.

To give an example in decimal, if you have 6+0, the answer is six. If you have 6+7, the answer is 13, or 3 remainder 1, which you put in the next decimal place. The same thing is done in binary with XOR gates (exclusive OR (only 1 input can be active at a time) and AND gates (if both inputs are active, so is the output).

And if you do know something about binary (which the above post assumes you don't,) then you XOR and AND 2 inputs, and if one is on, the it outputs 01, if both are on, it outputs 10
