Hi there!
Let us start off by giving a short synopsis of what our server is about. PenroseCraft is in short a PVP Towny server. We put a strong emphasis on player cooperation and competition. There is a basic economy system and friendly staff. For those not familiar with Towny, it is an advanced land management plugin. Players join towns of their choosing and can buy a plot that only they can build on. Towns compete to control more land and have more residents. Towns can start wars and rivalries and are encouraged to do so. Other than this the server is relatively vanilla. If you'd like a full, in-depth description scroll to the bottom.
Server Features:
PenroseCraft is the product of months of effort to make sure the experience is well-balanced and glitch free. Firstly let me begin by saying that this is our third go at running a Minecraft server. Our last one was largely successful and ran for well over two years so thanks to our old players from EmpireCraft! We wanted to change things up a bit and now that we've learned lessons from past successes we know what we're doing this time around. We've always been a personable staff that tries to relate to players' issues but of course now the challenge is and always has been getting players on the server! I figured a good way to get players would be to write a nice detailed post instead of a boring, cookie-cutter, bulleted list useless information. We broke ground, if you will, on the server back in December and decided that things were ready to go after all these months. We've had a few test players help us work out the kinks and now we're really ready. Secondly I'll discuss the play style. I got the idea for this play style from the great Binaryclock02 who is retired from server administration but in my opinion thought of the best possible way to play multiplayer Minecraft. What separates this play style from others is mostly the fact that we don't teleport (this is where we lose the lazy players). Now this sounds like it wouldn't be enjoyable but one thing our players know is that no warps or teleports are way more fun than being able to warp all over the map, and yes we know there is such thing as TP cooldown but that isn't the point, the point is how the server economy works. The server economy is based on gold since we've learned in the past that an economy that uses made up numbers is horribly unbalanced and leads to mass chaos. So 1 gold nugget is worth 1 coin. Simple enough. Gold is exchanged at the bank and the coins are deposited into your bank account. Gold is used in player trade and to purchase land. Banks also have deposit boxes which are essentially private chests only accessible by the box's owner and has 18 slots for your most precious items. So you have to make the dangerous trip from your town or house to trade in gold and dodge bandits along the way. That's one of the reasons we don't have TP's or warps. That brings us to our next topic; PVP. PVP is one of the core activities on our server and is the basis of our play style. Players are encouraged to raid towns, kill players, and start rivalries with other players. Towns offer protection and boost competition. A player can either join a town or create one when they earn the money for it. Town mayors may collect taxes to fund the expansion of the town or they may not. Tax rates depend on the mayor. A player may purchase his own plot or several plots in a town that only they or someone they allow can build on. Chests and doors in towns can be opened however all blocks cannot be destroyed in towns. If a player wants to live alone in the wilderness they may do that also and take up the role of freelance bandit, but be warned, on our last server these people were very unpopular and were hunted like dogs. Our server could be labeled semi-RPG but weo re not a dedicated RPG server we just end up being one because of our ranks and town system. We pride ourselves on our staffo s maturity and strictly monitor them. Staff is allowed to PVP if they are in survival, not using any commands, and swear not to cheat. We thoroughly check the logs daily to see if any staff member has abused their powers. The server tries to have mini-games and host server events to keep the players entertained with little diversions. I can promise that if the community on this server grows that I will take it as far as it can go and do the best I can to make it as enjoyable as possible. As of now weo re only a tiny 32 slot server but if we grow beyond that I will most definitely raise the slot cap. We try to stay relatively vanilla with the exception of Towny and key infrastructure plugins such as WorldEdit and the like. We had a website but the domain cano t be used for this one and I dono t believe the server is yet large enough for a website quite yet but that will come in time. Please, if you do decide to join us dono t waste our time by using hacks and trolling our players, we didno t start running servers yesterday. If you actually read all this thank you! Below is a summary of our rules and other such relative information:
[1] No griefing. o This rule has few exceptions. You may break a block placed by another player IF and only if you replace it in its exact place and orientation. For example if you break a door facing inside and replace it facing outside that IS a minor grief.
[2] No hacking. o This is rather self-explanatory. No speed hacks, fly hacks, PVP hacks, X-ray hacks, or any other mods that I may have left out that give you an unfair advantage over other players. The only mods we allow are Opti-Fine and Reio s Mini-map. If you have any questions about whether your mod is allowed please ask.
[3] No Admin/Mod interferance. o The staff will not change the weather, time, give you items, op you, teleport you, or op you no matter how many times you ask, there are no exceptions so please, dono t waste our time by asking.
[4] Do not whine about PVP. o This sounds rather impersonal but too many times weo ve had people complain about being killed on a PVP server. No one is obliged to return your items. You have the right to ask but they most likely wono t return their loot.
[5] Alternate accounts are not allowed. o This is to ensure fair PVP and territorial expansion. The more players in a town the more land it is allowed to own so if you have an alternate account that is in your town you have an unfair advantage over other town hence alternate accounts are against the rules. If you have a sibling or friend that plays on the server and uses the same computer as you do let us know so we dono t mistake the account for an alt.
[6] Do not troll. o Some light-hearted trolling is always fun but dono t let it get out of hand. Bigotry and racism are not tolerated. Excessive trolling ruins the mood and make gameplay less enjoyable.
[7] Stealing is allowed and encouraged. o Stealing from people is encouraged and boosts competition between towns and individuals.
[8] PVP Quitting is not allowed. o Leaving during a fight is poor sportsmanship and frustrates players like you wouldno t believe. Our server can detect if the disconnect was a Quit or if Minecraft crashed so we will know if you try the Minecraft crashed excuse.
[9] No exploiting bugs and glitches. o Minecraft isno t perfect and neither are our plugins so dono t take advantage of their flaws by exploiting bugs or glitches. We once had a glitch where when you broke blocks in a town the block dropped and was still there. Infinite diamonds is basically what players used it for and they all managed to hide it from the staff for days. Many players were banned for hiding it so dono t hide glitches. If you want infinite diamonds go play a creative server thato s not why weo re here.
[10] Respect new players. o New players keep the server alive so if you disrespect them we will be very upset. No one is a noob on our server. Everyone is here to have fun.
