As they lay dying, Bruce felt an emptiness within him, and as anger swelled within him, he was chosen by a green ring to join the Green Lantern Corps.

Filled with rage, he ignored the ring's protests and killed Joe Chill, overcoming the ring's programming with his willpower.

He decided to deliver justice to criminals through deadly force, pulling their bodies out of the Earth's atmosphere.

The darkness within him filled the ring, as even the police began to question his methods, until he finally decided to kill Jim Gordon and the Green Lanterns who came to arrest him.
