Belarus[a] (Belarusian: Belarus, [bjɛlaˈrusj] listen), the official name of the Republic of Belarus (Belarusian: Республіка Belarus, [rɛsˈpubljika bjɛlaˈrusj] listen, abbreviation – RB), is a country in Eastern Europe. January 1, 1919 is considered the date of the emergence of Belarusian statehood, when the Belarusian Socialist Soviet Republic was proclaimed as part of the RSFSR by the Manifesto of the Provisional Workers 'and Peasants' Government of Belarus. The proclamation of the Byelorussian People's Republic by the Executive Committee of the Rada of the All-Belarusian Congress, which preceded this on March 9, 1918, did not lead to the creation of fully functioning authorities due to the German occupation of the territory of Belarus.
On January 16, 1919, the territories of the Vitebsk, Smolensk and Mogilev provinces were excluded from the SSR of Belarus.
