I thought the Pyro was female? Valve refers to the pyro as 'she'...

Many of the classes looked very different in the concept art than the final version, so the Pyro probably looks nothing like this under the mask. As for the referring to the Pyro as 'she', the pronoun randomly alternates in-game.
