Elizabeth Blackwell was one of the first women in America to receive an officially recognized medical degree.


Around 1846 she was a teacher at a boarding school until she left for Philadelphia to pursue further education, with the dream of studying at the University of Philadelphia.

With this skin i try to portray her as a young adult, with her legacy not yet found. I decided on a more humble Victorian-Era dress with a fitting cap, showing her uncommonly high income for a woman at that time. the Colours purple and green, instead of the more commonly seen red, black, navy/Prussian blue, represent her independence, courage and urge to explore.

I fashioned her face and hair after this early image.


Still it was hard to find accurate colours. I got the eye colour off of the painting from further up, but couldn't find any depiction showing her hair colour at a younger age. I decided based on the images i could dig up, that she most likely had darker brown hair.
