During the Winter War and Continuation War, the Finnish military was supplied with several pieces of equipment by their German allies, such as German tanks, Russian tanks captured on the Eastern Front, helmets, guns, and planes. The helmets they were provided with by the Germans were the M35 or M40 Stahlhelm, which had been adopted by other axis countries such as Hungary. The Finns took a particular liking for the design, continuing to use the helmets long after the war. The M55 helmet, which was a West German-produced copy of the wartime Stahlhelm was worn by the Finnish Army up into the early 1970s.
