Attempt to make my Fireleaf character more superhero-like, inspired by Biz & ArcaneKnight sharing superhero stuff often. The character is inspired by the fire leaf plant in the Sims 4 which looks like a normal harmless herb but then is a poisonous variety. Fireleaf is quite the same because she may look like a superhero but that's a facade for her poisonous nature. 💀

I need to be a bit careful with how I word this. This is a pretty good skin: the flower on the head is a cool design element that stands out compared to earlier iterations and the ponytail has this cartoony flavour that I kinda like for it too. The brown palette is a lot better than it was in your second one and the concept art really helps me understand what you were going for. It does look like something you could see as a "generic" (?) superhero design. I will also say that I get this had to be transformed to a superhero like design, and that definitely could be the cause of what I am about to say.

With that said, I think each iteration for me at least has drained what made the original stand out: The colouring and consistency. For the first skin it felt like your colours almost melted into each other, which gave it this calm but still quite concisely proportioned look. I could tell each part from one another, but the colours still had a flow. The blushing gave it some wonderful identity and the shading stood out, with it's very gradient but not unnatural look. When you made the pixelart sprite for it, it really felt like the skin exactly portrayed that pixie. The green saturation splash on the hood of the skin ensuring variety and the purple on the back, while not feeling like a flower, gave it that swampier look. Like there was more to it than just the cute front.

This skin, while not improving upon the first one, does imo improve upon the second one. The second one felt a bit incohesive. What I do think this lost compared to the second one, is the more "nature"-based look. The hair on the second one felt like vines or something in that direction. The flower, albeit not as well done as the one for this one, was still a good splash on it. The skin's closed eyes almost made it feel sad.

This one just falls slightly flat in comparison. I can't tell what this version of fireleaf is feeling and it doesn't have the standout elements that the first one did. It kinda feels like to me that it needs that unifying item or idea, that really brings the skin together. A heavily shadowed skin tone. A green tone that dips into the purple palette, similarly to how the first one did. A contrasting element where the skin clicks for me, or maybe the blush from the first skin. The brown I will say is a very good addition in comparison to both earlier skins: It really adds that third element that the first iteration could've used. But I am not sure it outweights the more flat identity for me, I can't feel her poisonous nature in this one, like I could in the first and to some extend also the second one. And that I think is a shame, because the idea for fireleaf is really good.

I am sorry if this post is a bit long, and I hope it's not written too convoluted as I tend to end up writing weird explanations for some of my rationale. I will reiterate that I do not think any of the fireleaf skins are bad. Just really hope you one day return to the more expressful fireleaf character, that really felt unique compared to other skins.

Cheers

Aye no need to apologize for lengthy comments. They're rather insightful. 😊

The first version of Fireleaf is probably closest to me/my own creativity. A personification of poison that is somewhat abstract/conceptual. In that, I think the first iteration is better concept-wise but also in its expression. It surely has that innocent-looking vs poisonous nature going on in the design. Technique/shading wise it could definitely be better: gradient galore. 😅

Auri's Thanos Bowl event made me turn the Fireleaf concept into a 'superhero' type thing, but as I've written in that description too: superheroes aren't really my cup of tea and I wasn't all too pleased with the result. Only that technique-wise it felt much "cleaner" than the original Fireleaf. But that didn't make it better overall.

Then came this version 3 which is basically a re-try at making the Fireleaf concept a proper character to fit a superhero/villain universe. As mentioned, inspired by other members designing several superhero skins and also by Replica's heroes vs villains contest. And while I'm pretty pleased with how this fits what I was going for, it's definitely "generic" and it lost all the charm of the original Fireleaf skin including its expression.

It was a fun experience to try and create a superhero/villain design and I am satisfied with this design from that viewpoint. 😁 But having done it, I still don't quite feel it's something for me. Perhaps Fireleaf isn't a character fit to be in a super-universe. And considering what you've written as well as re-evaluating the concept/character overall it would probably be interesting to create a new iteration sometime trying to clean up/dust off and build upon the first version and stray away from the superhero-like design. (But perhaps keep the brown and/or the flower in some shape or form.)

Fireleaf might just (have) become for me what the Dreamless Wanderer has been for you. 😊

Thanks!
