The New Arrival
So where are we going again?

I'm taking you to Forgherten to meet Master Goherten.

Forgherten? Never heard of it. Is it a place that grants wishes? Are there any girls? Why does it sound like "forgotten?" Also, Goherten? Who is that? Is he some famous person or something? Do I have to fight him? What's the deal with the "herten" at the end? How will I learn smith--?

Enough questions already!

Sorry, I'm just really excited and a little anxious.

A little?

Okay fine it's just that earlier before we left you told me I have a golden opportunity to learn smithing from a true master. I've been so fascinated by it since I was a child and while I haven't actually worked with any metals, I did as much reading and exploring as I could so that when I did become a smith, I knew what to do instantly.

Well, I'm glad to hear you have ambition. Just relax kid, you're in good hands.

Alright. So could you tell me more about who you're taking me to? Goherten was it?

Indeed. Now there is a lot for you to know, but what is important is that he will teach you everything you need to know and even more. He has spent countless years mastering the craft of smithing and mining and has created innumerable items from various metals. From weapons that could split mountains, armor that could withstand the force of multiple tornadoes, tools that would never degrade, and even jewelry that could be mistaken for stars, he's done it all and put his entire being into everything he has made.

That's amazing! Is it really possible to create such things?!

Ha, just wait till we get there and you'll see the truth of my words, but enough about Goherten, I have some questions for you.

Um, okay that should be fine.

Let me rephrase that. I just have some concerns about you. No offense, but you look like you couldn't even hold a 5-pound rock with both hands for very long, let alone lift it. Your arms resemble twigs and I can't believe those legs haven't collapsed on themselves yet.

Well, that's harsh. But, you saw my living conditions back there right?! It wasn't easy for me to get a proper meal with all the necessary nutrients. I guess you are right about my arms and legs though, but I am grateful to my father who has sacrificed so much for me. It's also why I want to become a smith because I can make a living off something I'm passionate about and support myself and my father back home.

Okay okay, I get it. You won't have to worry anymore about getting proper meals and once you start working I'm sure you'll get stronger and hopefully build a little muscle. We get a lot of clients from all over so you'll be supporting your father in no time.

Thanks! I can't wait and I'll be sure to work hard!

Speaking of work, what kind of metal do you want to work with? Looking at that hair of yours, I'd assume you want to be a whitesmith.

Well, actually I--

Heh.

What's so funny?

Oh nothing, I just realized how gray your hair is going to get from all the anvil dust.

What?! Dust?! But, I like my white hair and I would hate for it to be discolored and perish the thought of it being dyed. It's the only thing I have left of my mother...

Oh, I didn't realize it was important to you! I apologize for bringing that up and my condolences...

No worries and thanks...

*awkward silence*

Look on the bright side, I'm sure she would be proud of you for following your dreams. Anyways, the provided equipment won't protect your hair that well, but it will protect the rest of your body and as long as you follow protocol, your hair should be fine. Just take extra precaution when melting the metals, you really don't want it in your hair, especially gold; that stuff requires immense heat to melt. Goherten has a way to eliminate the pain and prevent damage to your hair and skin if that does happen, but he has to either be there right beside you or be notified immediately to make sure you don't get seriously injured.

I'll keep that in mind when I start working. So about the smithing options, would it be okay if I had a short demonstration for each metal to see what would suit me? Or do I need to have my mind made up by the time we get there?

I think you should think about it and hopefully, make a decision before we arrive. Goherten has been getting busy lately and while he says he doesn't need any rest and can help immediately upon request, I and many of the workers worry a ton about him so we try not to make mistakes or forget things.

I see. He sounds like a remarkable person.

He is and once you start working, you'll be glad you met him.

Ahh! I can hardly contain my excitement! By the way, how much longer until we get there?

Hmm. Roughly 30 minutes I would say.

Great! I'll spend the rest of that time deciding what smith I'll become. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?

*sigh* This is going to be a very long 30 minutes.

30 MINUTES LATER

For goodness sake, we're finally here!

*staring in awe*

So what do you think?

Astounding! A mountain that reaches the stars, burning charcoal wafting through the air, houses that could comfortably fit a family of 5, and the green roofs speaking volumes of the time that has passed. This is truly a paradise for an upcoming smith like myself.

Well, that's one way to describe Forgherten.

So where is Gohert--?

Ah, so you must be the new arrival. I am Goherten and welcome to Forgherten.

en...

Don't just stand there, speak up!

Erm. Uhm. G-greetings! M-my name is smithing, I want to learn goldsmith from you and b-become a Gole!
