RIP your video file though. I have been experimenting with a way to record the progress of skins without actually recording my screen. It involves saving many snapshots of the skin throughout its creation, and rendering them on a model with Mine-imator. If you have enough of those in-between skin files, I could show you in more detail how to do it.
I tend to save a bunch of in-between files while i'm working on the skin, but then once I finish it I just save the finished file and delete the extras so as not to mix them up. so I don't have them anymore for this skin, but that definitely sounds like something I'd be interested in trying for the future :0
- Configure the background to your liking. I removed sky, clouds, and ground to leave just a solid color.
- Create a Steve or Alex model (Workbench button). You could add just one and later have the camera rotate around it, or add two player models that are facing opposite directions. You have no information about what side was being worked on at the time of the snapshot, so I prefer the second option since it shows off all sides simultaneously.
- Configure the graphics settings on the player model to your liking. I turned off all the graphics effects like shadows, SSAO, etc, so it looks just like in the skin editor.
- Import each skin file into the program in order (Import an Asset button)
- For each skin snapshot, create a keyframe for the player model, and change the texture to that skin. Actually it would be easier to create just one model in step 2, then duplicate it and rotate it after all keyframes are created.
- Test play the animation to make sure the frames are changing at a desirable rate. You can change the Tempo in the project properties.
- Also I added some little things like light sources to remove shadows, nudged the body parts to avoid z-fighting.
I have uploaded the project file for you to study. (Created in MI 2.0 pre-release 4) As a bonus, you also get to see the timelapse progress of my Sniffer skin!this is so amazing
