This is my interpretation of the oil-painting Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci for the Historical Splendor contest. This is a reflection of the quintessential renaissance cultural elements that manifested in the early 16th century. Enjoy.
History behind painting
Experts speculate that Leonardo da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503 or 1504 in Florence, Italy. The original has been kept in the Louvre since 1797.
The woman depicted in the painting is Lisa del Giocondo, an Italian noblewoman and member of the Gherardini family of Florence and Tuscany. Her name was given to the Mona Lisa, her portrait commissioned by her husband and painted by Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance. Little is known about Lisa's life.
*foonote
Due to the fact that I generally like to include at least SOMETHING comical in my posts, here are some modern interpretations of the painting.
