Greetings. As I keep working on the Minecraft Dungeons skins, I’d like to introduce you in the meanwhile my first original character as my entry to this contest. Their name is Jesse.
In order to fully understand the lore of this character, I must deliver a fair amount of context:
I used to play a game called Starbound, which is, in quick words, Minecraft but in 2D and set in space. I’ve had played it for alrmost 4k hours and got all the archievements:
I used to PvP there on a certain server that I visit nearly all of my time. Starbound PvP has no law; it is intrinsically connected to the game’s high .JSON modding potentinal, meaning that you could create custom (sometimes overpowered) weapons and use them in combat. Although I had some .JSON knowledge based on the work of other people, I despised that style of PvP, so I created weapons more loyal to the vanilla items, or just used actual vanilla items.
One of those items included pets, specifically one known as the Peacekeeper Drone, which was easily the most effective pet in combat:
The Peacekeeper Drone hovered near you and shot inflammable bolts at any hostile target it encountered. The more I used it, the more I started to have it in high regard, to the point where I no longer referred to it as a pet, but rather an in-game parter of my character. As such, I wanted to give it a unique look and a name. The latter part was the easiest of both. At first, I had my own doubts; given that this drone was… well, a drone, I found it hard to give it a name that matched its gender (if it even had one) so I came across a name that could be applied on both: Jesse. And yes, you can name and rename pets with the magic of .JSON.
As for the reskinning part… it proved fatal.
To put it simply I wanted it to look…
I resorted to whoever had enough knowledge to do that, but we encountered several difficulties that disencouraged both the person I asked to reskin Jesse and me to continue. The disencouragement was so intense that I stopped using Jesse for PvP before long. Despite being the best pet in the game, the disappointment won me over.
I don’t play Starbound anymore, and I have my reasons to not come back. Still, I miss all those PvP duels. So, while I was one day bored doing nothing, I decided to make a Minecraft skin inspired on Jesse and named it equally, and so it came to be what it is to this day, the first OC of mine that I publish in Planet Minecraft.
