very short story that i whipped up as i posted this so it's kinda bad but i don't really care
I was only about 17 years old when I drove in my first race. I'd always been passionate about it, but the fire within me only surged when I sped around that circle.
I was only about 20 when I stood on that pedestal, receiving that golden trophy engraved with the number one.
I was only about 24 when my name reached the international news. Val Penske, injured in nearly fatal wreck.
Now, I'm in my mid 50s. I'm fixing the youngling's cars. I'm watching these kids become more and more like robots with their mechanical limbs and even hearts and brains. I remember my parents and grandparents telling me that they'd joke around about how humanity will become replaced by robots.
I adjust my arm, dipping oil into the silver chambers. I focus my artificial eye on the television screen. I fix the power drill seated on my tool belt with my rusty hand.
Times are changing, and we all just have to change with them.
