We stood transfixed as our cannons battered the enemy lines in the distance. Even from this far vantage point we could hear the screams, we could smell the death and the destruction that lay in the barrages wake. The shelling ceased and for but a few moments the world lay quiet. Suddenly, the order was shouted:
