The first anthropomorphic diving suit was developed and patented in 1882 by the Carmagnolle brothers from Marseille, this submersible suit that resembles an articulated armor allows to supply the diver with oxygen while maintaining a viable internal atmospheric pressure.

It could theoretically be used for very deep dives up to 700 meters for several hours, eliminating the majority of the physiological dangers associated with this type of dive, its occupant did not need to decompress during the ascent, in reality this 380 kg scuba never worked properly and its joints were never fully waterproof... It is now on display at the Musée national de la Marine in Paris.
