Going back in time to when castrati were a thing…yuck. They had the nerve to chop off boys’ (*cough cough*) just so they could sing high come adolescence. Thankfully this practice was scrapped and countertenors were on the rise!
Anyways, I tried to make Otho/Ottone from Handel’s Agrippina, with this particular version portrayed by Iestyn Davies. He’s got such a rich voice and that kinda motivated me to study the aria in the skin’s title? In the opera he is stuck between ascending the throne and loving Poppea—and then he ditches the throne, leaving bad boy Nero/Nerone to claim it.
If you know your Roman history, then I applaud you. If you don’t, that’s fine~
