German Soldiers in WW2 were the main fighting force of the Heer. The Wehrmacht, or Nazi Germany's armed forces, had many divisions and specializations of soldiers who fought for Hitler's Reich. Panzer officers were required to direct tanks on the battlefield. A tank usually consisted of 3-5 people, depending on the class of the tank. Famous tanks like the Tiger I and Panzer IV would need at least 4 people to operate fully. However, these tanks would need an officer to provide orders to the vehicle. As more recruits became experienced at commanding a tank, they received rewards such as the Knight's Cross necklace. These officers were usually equipped with a sidearm and a document pouch.
