§1-Intro

Hello. Welcome back to a lore theory. This is another one about The End. This time I intend to talk about the hidden music of The End, the many Strongholds, and maybe elaborate on the villainous Endermites from my last End-based blog. Also, I have added section signs for your reading convenience.

§2-Music

It is pretty well established at this point that Minecraft Dungeons is considered canon to Minecraft, and takes place in the past in relation to the base game. The game shows us a much nicer End, one which I have talked about before in my blog on Endermites. One of the lesser talked about aspects of Minecraft Dungeons is the music… In fact, I don’t think anyone has talked about the End music. The Echoing Void DLC for the game gives us 19 new songs to listen too, each sounding really, really strange. They make robotic beeps and boops, not making coherent sounds or music… But even weirder are the names…

The songs are named as follows;
  • To.
  • The Stronghold
  • Drawn
  • Vault
  • Closer
  • The.
  • End Wilds
  • Void
  • City
  • Ethereal Blocks
  • Tower
  • Ship
  • Nothingness
  • Obsidian Cavern
  • End.
  • Broken Citadel
  • Apart
  • Astray Archipelago
  • Obsidian Gate Tower
  • Mountainside Cavern
  • Shattered
  • Tent
  • End Shrine
  • Broken Heart of Ender
  • To The Beginning
  • Mojam*

*Mojam, for those who don’t know, was an annual charity event. Find more online!

Now, it is important to watch the capitalization of these words. A common cipher is to use capitalised words only, seeing what it spells, and here it doesn’t help much. What about backwards, though? See, the Enderlings are known for speaking backwards, and what if they also write backwards? That is where we get somewhere… The words almost make sense, but not enough for my satisfaction. Try putting them together yourself, and you’ll definitely see what I mean… What if we use the full stops as a reference point? Nothing comes from that either.

But if we rearrange the words, we can make some sense. Using nonsensical rearrangements which follow no decipherable pattern, we can find such sentences as:

“The. Shattered Astray Archipelago” or “Drawn To. The Stronghold”

But even doing this gives us no real useful clues to the overarching lore. What’s more, it seems unfair to rearrange the words in such a perplexing manner… There needs to be order!!

Instead it may be best to look at the many strongholds that the game has to offer…

§3-The Stronghold(s)

The Stronghold is a place that many find spooky. While not entirely threatening on its own, the lore connotations it may hold are indeed quite rattling. The Stronghold is only 1 structure, but if you know lore, then you know the Ancient Cities also resemble Strongholds, at least in the fact that they look like they contain portals. The Stronghold is known mainly for its portal, and the Ancient Cities also hold a structure at the centre which highly resembles a portal. I will make another Lore Theory on the portal and the Ancient Cities later. Now I want to talk about a 3rd Stronghold…

The game itself doesn’t have this structure, but if we again turn to Minecraft Dungeons, we find the Howling Peaks DLC with the Gale Sanctum. Apart from The Stronghold level in Minecraft Dungeons, this is the only place End portal blocks can be found. The Gale Sanctum is atop the Windswept Peaks (my personal favourite level) and guarded by Illagers–who seem to not be under the rule of the Arch-Illager, instead being sort of rebels. More on these so-called “Evillagers” later! The Gale Sanctum is a place of worship, but not to a god or The Hosts (seen in Minecraft Legends). The Gale Sanctum is a place of worship, worshipping the Heart of Ender.

Many signs move to this theory. The End is shown to be a sort of magical land, taking inspiration from such Japanese religious beliefs as Sufism and the belief in a sort of Kami, or a spiritual force in all things. The End in Dungeons has the same lantern designs as ion Japanese folklore, the same gates and more, but the most surprising part is that the Gale Sanctum shares these designs! The Gale Sanctum looks like the end! What’s more proof that the Gale Sanctum is touched by The End, is the fact that the grass is red! Enderlings see in inverted colours, and the grass which looks red to us, looks green to them! No one ever questioned the grass as to why it is red, but it all makes sense!!

§4-Outro
So there, The Gale Sanctum is another Stronghold. But why is that important? Well, the Trial Chambers look an awful lot like the Gale Sanctum, and you’ll soon know more once the update drops and I post my already-written blog on the topic… remember to keep on LOOOOORING and I’ll s’ya nexttime!!
