Entry for the Tropical Party Minecraft Skin Contest :)
You ever want to learn more about a topic, but then lose track of time and come out of it with a vague idea of the original topic and incredible understanding of something different? Yeah, that kinda happened with this.
For this contest, I first thought of making something Hawaiian-themed (because I am basic), but I wanted to do something a little more interesting?
So I was like, "huh. maybe a Hawaiian god or goddess?" Originally I was going to do Kāne or Kanaloa, but I couldn't really think of what to do for them, so I went with the goddess Hiʻiaka (patroness of hula dancers, medicine, chant, sorcery).
I went really deep into traditional Hawaiian hula costume/adornment and not so much into the goddess herself, but eh, I think it looks nice either way.
She has a pa`u of kapa (bark cloth skirt), two leis (one on her neck and another on her head), and kupe`e (around her wrists and ankles).
Traditionally neither men nor women wore any clothes above the waist, so there's also that.
Hopefully this is good and fairly accurate 🤞
