In my world famous and not at all obscure data pack Valiance, one of the main goals I had was making combat more diverse on an average day. The best way to do this in my opinion is to simply add a new common Overworld mod. I tried this with the Brute, but quickly realised that this would probably not make a big difference, since they are really just tougher Zombies.
And so, I came up with the Bedazzle; a mysterious light in the dark of the deep caves.
These amethyst golems attack using shards from their body, shooting them at far away players. But if you try to attack them with short-ranged attacks, they will use raise amethyst stalagmites from the ground, dealing great damage to anyone in their path.
Originally, Bedazzle were going to replace all mob spawns inside geodes, which I thought would be quite common since I often see Skeletons and Creepers wandering about inside, before I realised geodes are too often sealed shut so they would never leave and enter the caves on their own.
Now, they spawn quite often in caves, usually a couple dozen blocks below the surface. Think of them the same way you think of Zombies and Skeletons; just an everyday obstacle, not meant to be something to take seriously.
Speaking of changes made in development, Bedazzle will not have any unique drops in the upcoming update (Or will they?) but in the future, they will drop their cherished Bedazzle Rods.
I had a plan for these rods from the very start relating to a future mechanic, but decided it would not make sense to add an item before it had a use. I tried coming up with something, perhaps a potion? I even considered making the rods themself some sort of consume able weapon. In the end, I decided it is simply something to save until later.
