Better cobblestone generator
I'm trying to build a semi auto cobblestone generator but I'm not a fan of this design.
does anyone know a better design ?

Assuming semi-suto means a design based on the player mining the cobble (as opposed to TNT or wither breaking), my preferred design is an adaptation of
ilmango's Simplest/Most Efficient Stone Generators 1.11/1.12
From 1.13 on using the observer to detect the flow of the lava no longer worked [reliably], so one changes the water sources to waterlogged walls and detects the change in the wall when i connects to the newly formed stone.
I generally build two of these side-by-side [one mirrored] at a spawner (or other easy source of XP) since an efficiency 5 pick will clear the stone faster than it generates. (Actually faster than the double generates stone, but the design can't be expanded beyond two wide because of the requirments for what must be next to the stone generation spaces.)
