In my last article about factions, you learned how to make, well, a people-friendly happy faction. But, people retorted, wouldn't a faction with flowers everywhere be pretty easy to raid? That's why I've make a new guide : how to have a very powerful faction. I know a thing or two about having a great, raid-proof faction and base. I'm certainly not the best, but let me share some tips with you.

1. Claim your base as far away from everyone else as you can. Usually when I am looking for a place to build, I walk at least 2000 blocks away from the nearest other base or spawn. This keeps your faction base secret, hard to find, and near abundant resources. If you have to raid another faction, just use the /spawn command to get out of your base.

2. Never accept TP requests from anyone outside your faction. Nobody should know how to find you. It's pretty easy for someone to say, "Hey bro, I'll trade diamonds for wood. Can I tp to you?" and set home in the faction base so that he can return and raid later. If you must interact with someone, warp to somewhere else to trade - and bring a sword just in case!

3. Don't build ANYTHING with wood! I learned this the hard way. I think you know why. But, you say, cobble is darn ugly! There are many alternatives to cobble, like stone bricks, obsidian (build carefully!), and smelted stone. My personal favorite is leaves. They don't burn, are attractive, and are very easy to harvest - just wander around the rainforest with shears! Plus, they make great camo.

4. Or you can get creative with your base. A method that often works is to build some houses above ground, claim, then TNT above ground here and there so that it looks griefed. Then make your real base nearby and far underground. It helps hide your base pretty good. Try to think of other ways to fool people.

5. To prevent xrayers, make a room lined with gold ore blocks (not smelted yet) because gold is pretty useless - no xrayer wants gold when they can have diamonds instead - and put your chests inside. It works great!

6. Don't invite just anyone to your faction. Some people will beg to join, then steal all your stuff and grief when they do join - then leave and move on to the next faction. If you are considering inviting someone to join, make sure they don't have a bad reputation. If you notice other people complaining that the person griefed or stole, don't invite him.

7. Put a penalty for dying in your faction. Example : If you die, you must give the owner a diamond. This may sound harsh, but it all works better in the end because you won't have a bunch of annoying people eating up your power (and you get rich!).

8. If you play a server where factions have money, regularily ask each member to pay his or her dues - example : membership costs 50 currency per day or something like that, and if you don't pay up for a week, you get kicked. So in case of emergency and someone steals your diamonds, you have insurance - a nice supply of cash to buy new stuff!

10. Finally, be overall nice. Don't invite raiders. You can raid and steal from other factions if you must, but don't say things like "My faction is the best! You will never find my base! Yours sucks!". The best faction is the stealthy one.

I hope these helped. If you have ideas for further articles/tutorials, leave a comment.
Most of all, have fun! That's what games like Minecraft are for!

So, i play on thearchon and im an owner of a very large faction. I came across this article today, and noticed quite a few things that will most likely destroy your faction or make you lose your base.

1. Try and get to the border, or if your lucky, get a corner. Almost always corners are taken, but there are lots of spots along the border.(i recommend a skybase on the border)

5. Depending on how large a base is, a large cube of gold will look quite suspicious to an xray-er. And, xrayers go for gold alot, for gapples especially. I recommend lining it with coal or, and in a pattern that doesnt look so suspicious(a cube).

6. Don't go off of someones looks. In fact, if someone is in your faction they shouldn't even have access to your base. Make sure they are trusted before letting them in the base.

7. That seems way to hard to oversee, especially if you have a large faction. It would take immense amounts of work to track when a person died then tell if they lost power or not. Just set an overall rule like:
"Anyone under 5 power will be kicked!" This should help keep power at a constant state.

8. Again, way too hard to oversee. If you want to be payed, just have an entry fee and don't ask for anything else.

P.S.
Going along with 8, you shouldn't let people who don't contribute to the faction have any more privileges, and if you want to, you could kick people who don't contribute.

Welp, thats all for me, hopefully it helped!

You should always asume your base will be found. To make a successful base it needs anti-hybrid defences. I may make a post about that. And unless you know what you are doing your base will be raided easy. I think I have found a way to make an unraidable base in 1.8 but otherwise a base will always be raidable.

Ditto on the Trapdoor on the ocean floor, works great. Another idea is a small sky vault made of obsidian w lowest layer wool to blend in with the clouds. To deal with the shadow, create a small apparently griefed house in the shadow and place torches around to dispell the shadow(if your skybase is above water, you may need to create a small island for the house)!

Hey guys my friend and I had a faction on infamouspvp.net and our base was at bedrock completly covered with obsidian and 3 guys in full enchanted diamond raided our base. I think it was just luck that they found us like that.

Me and my friend have a faction and we got blown up by tnt twice. But the second time I had left the game for a few minutes ,with  my most important stuff on me thank god XD, like 10 minutes later when I came back our base was blown up. So we moved on to a temporary one, we took all of our stuff and went to make a new base far away. However when I came to see what happened to our old temporary base it was tnted. We had taken all of our stuff though. I knew that our new base was going to get tnted and everything so I took everything and went far out into the ocean, built an underwater/underground base that is deep so I think were safe for now. Even if your swimming in the ocean and for some reason your very far out to my base you still cant look down to see it because it is underground. There is no entrance or exit so we can just tp in and out.I am not sure if I should claim the land or take my chances because if I claimed it someone would be swimming maybe and it would say ~KoolCats land.

Heh, first time I had a faction I built a nice looking castle and then it got griefed because I was getting killed and everyone in it was dying. But I joined another faction and started working on another village...then the world was deleted because it was to broken.
