I really do like the new update but these little things just bug me insanely!
1.The chest have turned black for me, they only look black at certain angles but its most of the time and very annoying
2.When your just walking around my minecraft skins arm turns black randomly also very annoying x.x
Its just these two little things that make my game play experience uncomfortable

Just wait for the actual 1.8; I'm pretty sure they'll fix it
if your playing in a world that was made during 1.7.3 then you can fix the chest by putting a torch by it.
But Idk if this works with signs.
