I almost snorted. "He's just a friend."
"Yes, but trust us, he'll give you an honest opinion." Stacey replied.
"Why, because YOU'RE not?" I asked.
"Maybe not. A guy would." Catherine answered.
"Fine. We'll go see Nathan." We walked down the streets and over to the villages where Nathan lived. We walked up the gravel to his door. "Well?"
"Well what? YOU knock." Catherine demanded.
"I'm going to kill you guys..." I said. They laughed. I knocked on the door. Nathan's mom opened the door. At least I guess it was his mother, I never actually met her before. But of course, she knew who I was.
"Princess Amelia! What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Um, can I see Nathan?"
"Why... why would you want to see him?" she looked shocked.
I looked at her quizzically. "I can't see my friends?"
"Friends? Why, he never told me..." Her voice was cut off by Nathan's in the background.
"MOM, WHO IS IT?" I guess he decided not to wait for an answer and walked to the door. When I saw him in the doorway, I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow. When he saw ME, he went as pale as a ghost. A-amelia, what... what are you doing here...?"
His mom didn't let me answer. "Nathan, I'll have a word with you in a minute..." And she walked back into the house.
"Well," Nathan said once his mom was out of earshot, "you look nice."
"SEE!?" Stacey and Catherine said at the same time. I looked back and rolled my eyes. Then turned back to Nathan.
"Why does your Mom not know we're friends?"
"Well, uh..."
"You were my best friend. Now I'm not so sure anymore." I turned around. "Come on, we're going back." I said to Stacey and Catherine. They followed me back to the castle just as Nathan's mom called him back in.

Stacey and Catherine didn't talk to me on the way back to the castle. They knew better. They knew I didn't want to talk. The just went back to their own houses and left me to be alone, which I guess is what I wanted. They know what I want even before I do. And... so did Nathan.
I walked back into the castle. Molly heard. "Back already, Amy?"
"Yeah." I said.
"Where did you guys go?" I didn't answer. Just walked back up the stairs and into my room. I closed my door, and once again, I sat down on my bed and cried my eyes out.
