Once upon a time, there were ten goldfish in a pond. Nine of them lived happily, swimming in the crystal waters, basking in the summer sun, their sunset orange scales gleaming. Everyday the young ones played together, doing somersaults and back flips. However, the tenth goldfish was different. He hid in dark caves. He didn't swim in the waters, or bask in the sun. His orange scales didn't gleam. All this was unusual for a young goldfish, but the most unusual thing of all was that his scales weren't sunset orange, no, they were green. Not a saturated green, but a bright kelp green. You'd think this would make him stand out, but in fact it made him blend in more with his surroundings. He hid from everyone in his cave, disguising himself as seaweed.The rare times he emerged from his dark lair for food everyone laughed at him because of his unusual coloring and habits.
One day, Goldfish decided to go and try and make friends with the younger fish. He flapped his small fins and made his way out of his cave. As soon as he got out he saw fish his age playing happily. Taking a deep breath, he started making his way towards a group of 3 fish.
"Look guys, it's the pickle," the goldfish laughed.Goldfish's heart sunk. He had so been hoping that the other fish would finally accept him. He turned around, and with a flick of his tail, started swimming away.
"Wait!" Goldfish turned around. Behind him was another fish his age.
"Yes?" Goldfish said. He didn't have much experience in social situations.
"Wow," the other goldfish said, swimming round him. "Your scales are amazing."
"Thanks?" Goldfish was shocked. He was actually getting along with someone!
"Do you wanna be my friend?" the other goldfish asked shyly.
"S-sure," Goldfish said, speechless. The other goldfish grabbed his fin and they swam away into the crystal waters.
