Well I've been meaning to write this for a while now. Fact of the matter is, some adventure/pvp maps are great and then a lot of them aren't. What is lacking? Creativity and Individuality.

The last few weeks (probably months now) has seen the boom in Survival Games maps playthroughs, servers, etc... People have been obsessing about the video veteran Vareide's map series Survival Games PvP maps based on the film the Hunger Games which is based on the book The Hunger Games. Lots of bases here, originality my arse. But seriously, The Survival Games presented a totally new and interesting type of map that grasped people by the balls and pulled them in (to put it bluntly).

Skyblock survival is another example, it presented a never-before seen map type that people went nuts over (get it nuts, reference to earlier... screw the jokes I'm not a comedian). A group of dirt blocks with a tree and a chest floating in the middle of absolute nothing? Hell yeah.

Fact of the matter is that Adventure Maps nowadays have to have a twist or something that really catches a player's eye. Probably the most famous map creator of all time, Vechs, is the best example. He came up with a new type of map, custom-made and terraformed and that made a player's life a misery in Minecraft they were so difficult.

Instead of making a story up about a plague or an evil wizard that destroyed your town, forced you to go and seek revenge and then to end up killing him and everyone lived happily ever after (very similar to my Machinima series somehow) try and do something different. Do something that has never been done before (like SethBling's new map) and capture the attention of video makers (like me :D) with something totally new. Spend time terraforming your land, create a custom texture pack, make the map available to play multiplayer as well as singleplayer.

Adventure Maps are dying, the forums are being spammed with unoriginal, copied, inspired, boring and annoying crap. Well, its not crap, some of it is quite good but don't sit there moaning about not being popular. Look back at it, analyze your story, add interactive elements and just try and make your map stand out.
