Introduction
You may have a server. Even if you don't, this is just good information to know about. One of the biggest questions on a new or even old server is where to advertise. Well, there are lots of places, but a lot of people choose wrongly. So where do you advertise? Everywhere possible? No. So where?
So, Where Do You Do It?
The best places to advertise are places like PMC and the minecraft forums. The "advertising websites" don't do a lot. Your server just gets lost in the thousands of others like yours. PMC is great because hundreds of people are searching for a server. If you refresh the page and have a good gimmick, you should be set.
One place NOT to do it would be servers, especially popular ones. If you do that, there is a chance that they'll spread the word about that dumb server, and people will leave. Trolls and griefers will also go on. It's not pleasant what happens afterwards, from experience.

I know this was a pretty short blog, but I just wanted to say where and where to not advertise, for the sake of your server.
