Hello everyone! ProfesserCarson here with a review on the album "Syro" by electronic music producer Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin. Aphex Twin is a very highly revered electronic music producer, known for his harsh drum rythyms and essientally making an early (and better) form of "dubstep." This album, Syro, is the first full length release from him in 13 years, ever since his album "Drukqs" came out in 2001. Let's Get into the review, shall we?
Review
This album starts out with a confident and fun track, "minipops 67." It's a fun, and somewhat more down-tempo break from previous material by him. It's a good track that was first played in shows during 2007-2010, yet it is overrated in my opinion and wasn'y worthy of being a single. I think that title should've gone to XMAS_EVET10, the next track, which is, in my opinion, the best track on the album. A monster of a track going out to 10 minutes in length, if you were to listen to any, this would be it. The next track, produk 29, is another great track, yet nothing noteworthy is in it. But I will admit, it does have a very nice synth line. The next track, 4 bit 9d api+e+6, is a nice acid track that reminds me of his harsher Drukqs days. The next track, 180db_, is probably one of my least favourite off the record. It's still a nice track, however it's the worst out of a collection of nice tracks. CIRCLONT6A is another standout track. Mixing acid witch ambience and drum n' bass, it's a magnificent track that I think really deserves all the attention it gets. The next track is more of a viginette, called fz psuedotimestretch+e+3. It's short, yet it'll have you wishing it was much longer. Probably in my top 3 on the album, although it's so short. The track after that, called CIRCLONT14, is another good track, yet not as noteworthy as its sister song, CIRCLONT6A. Next up is my number 2 track, the title one. syro u473t8+e is yet ANOTHER magnificent track, and when I say magnificent, I mean magnificent. With a vocal sample saying "Timestretch" in Russian and a cheesy yet fun synth line, it's sure to get your head nodding. The next track is much cheesier and worse. PAPAT4 is not nearly as good, and is at a tie with 180db_ for the worst track on the album. Although the next track redeems it. s950tx16wasr10 (what a title..) vists his Drukqs days like no other track on this album. With heavy drums and some ambience, it's perfect. Ending the album is a very peaceful track called aisatsana. First played live in 2012, it is a perfect closer to the album and is probably the most popular song on the album.
