To allocate more memory to Minecraft, do the following:
Open the Minecraft launcher
Click on the "Edit Profile" button
Where it says "JVM Arguments" (at the bottom) type in:
"-Xmx[amount of memory in GB]G -Xms[same amount of memory in GB]G"
Simplified:
"-Xmx4G -Xms4G" = 4GB of memory allocated to Minecraft
This works for all GB amounts, just don't go too high.
Also, you can put:
"-Xmx2048M -Xms2048M" = 2GB of memory for Minecraft
Here are some common MB to GB amounts:
1G = 1024M
2G = 2048M
3G = 3072M
4G = 4096M
5G = 5120M
6G = 6144M
7G = 7168M
8G = 8192M
274G = 280576M

very informative, diamond/fav/sub :)
Still as helpful as ever :D
Diamond.
EDIT :
don't mean to hi-jack your blog, but another way to add RAM is go to control panel > programs > Java Runtime > Java > View > Runtime parameters and add -XmX (w/e amount but must be in MBs)
And your way is a great way to allocate more memory to a Minecraft server. I've seen so many questions on how to do that.
