Australian Culture
Australia is a very multicultural country; it has people from all around the world. Most immigrants come from UK, China, Vietnam, Africa, India and many more places, and have introduced new foods to Australia.
Australia’s original inhabitants are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the guardians of one of the world’s oldest continuing cultural traditions. They’ve been living in Australia for at least 40, 000 years or possibly up to 60, 000 years.
Aboriginal people are very religious and spiritual. Aboriginals often interpret dreams as being memory to things that happened during creation period, known as dreamtime. Aboriginal people are very artistic and draw pictures of the dreamtime. Dreams were important because they transformed back into ancestral time. Aboriginal mythology is not really about a person having a dream; each Tribe has their own dreamtime stories to tell, often based on a lesson to be learned or a tale with a moral. The stories are told to children and discussed at camp fires. At special ceremony’s the dreamtime stories are sung, acted out in a play and danced. They have ceremony’s for people that have died, called funeral ceremony’s, for these ceremony’s people often paint themselves with white clay and cut their bodies to show memory for the loss of their loved ones. Singing and dancing is also a part of the ceremonies.
In Australia we have a variety of clothes choices. You are allowed to wear what you feel comfortable in. There are no laws on clothing, but Australians are expected to wear certain clothing for work, most work places have standards. Out side of work you have your personal clothing choice, but required to wear neat clean clothes when going to clubs, movie theatre and other dressy places. Australia does not have an official national dress unlike other countries.
Lots of Australians love their sport! Wether they are watching it, or playing it. Australia is ranked the top cricketing nation in the world.
