Have you ever thought...
Man... I really stink at building... And I dont know if I can get better... Well... This is for you.
Now I know not all my work is grand, some of the s
tuff I have here looks kinda, well... Not so good... But its old! So hold on to your seat, because you are about to absorb some building tips that can help you along the way!

Lets get to work - The Starting Blocks
Hahaha that title was a little punny... But I personally start with the frame of the building. Your house that you live in started with frames, I suggest starting with frames so you can picture your future build. Some builds may not require frames, but once you are more advanced, it will be easier. An example of frames would be this:

Moving On - Materials
Your materials used are one of the most important parts of a build! You need to pick what you are going to use in advanced, meaning before you ever start! One thing you need to remember is how materials blend, the blending of materials is vital to the build looking good. I generally use one material for the frame, and something that goes with it for the walls. Sure, you can create something cool with what ever you want, but if you make sure the materials match, it will look much better!!! Lets show some examples of do's and donts...

Lets start with a simple one... I will let you look, then guess if its a do or dont.
What is this?:

Spoiler - Answer
Yes, this would work. The brick and the quartz go well togather, I use brick and quartz for victorian styled builds!

This next one will also be very obvious...
undefined
Spoiler - Answer
Um... Well, orange and blue... Diamond and pumpkin... Uh, no... It looks ok with this texture pack, but without it, it looks horrendous... So the answer is an obvious no.

This will be our final one, its a little bit harder...

Spoiler - Answer
Look closely... Do you see that stair block... Its jungle wood... Being blended with Dark oak wood and logs... Dont ever mix wood types for the detail block. I will explain detail blocks in a moment. But see how you mixed woods, it would be ok if it were like this...
undefined

Detail, Detail, Detail...
So detail is the main way to make a build stand out, and there are many ways to detail. Stairs, slabs, fences, and various other blocks can be used as detail. Detailing may seem pointless at first, but when you have a detailed home, people will notice. I want you to pick a picture, its of a wall, you can choose the wall that looks best...
1.undefined
2.undefined
Did you happen to pick wall 2... Man, how did I know which one you were going to pick??? Now a slim few may have picked wall 1, but wall 2 has more detail then wall 1. Notice how I used stairs under, and above the windows? It makes it look a whole lot nicer, and notice the stairs and slabs infront??? Those also add to the detail of the house, making it a better looking house. Lets move on.

Depth - How can it be used?
Depth is one of those things alot of people may not understand. Its really simple. I use depth in my walls, and decorative focal points on homes. Lets show you an example right now.

So I am building a modern styled home, and I decide I want to but a little cool thingy on the side. I make one, but I really dont think it adds to the look of the home... I decide to add some depth and I am wowed by it...
Picture 1 will be of the part with no depth, and 2 of the one with depth.

Im going to guess you like number two a little bit more, I put some depth in to that one, basically, I set a glass block back from the quartz, giving it some depth. Lets look at a little diagram showing depth and how it applies to a home wall.
undefined
The green dotted line is where you place the wall so then it has some depth, the red line is where most people throw walls however, its a prefrence really, I generally pick, and applying depth may not always be the best option, but for this example, it is.

Pellys Building Rules
I always follow a rule when I build,
I didnt learn it from anyone else, so I call it Pellys Rule of Threes. I like it because I am very OCD. And three is the number I picked for this instance. This example shows how I use it.
undefined
So you lay out your beam for the wall, or a starting block, and everything in between is counted like so, B1-2-3 1 1-2-3B You must always end on the 1 by its self, B1-2-3 1 1-2-3B  You would end on the B, you dont have to follow this rule, but the windows may be harder to place.
"But Pelly! I want a smaller wall!" Ok, a smaller wall, this will only work for ONE sequence, Pellys rule of Twos.
undefined

B1-2 1 1-2B This will give you a smaller wall, so then you can be satisfied. But lets move on...

Window/Glass placement.
Honestly, you can place this where ever you want, I place them like so B-W-B-W-B B stands f
or block, and W for window. I always start and end with a block. So then glass NEVER touches the beam/frame, because when it touches, it looks really bad. Trust me. Lets look at the yes and no picture.

undefined
Now the second one, it looks better, you may not think that, but trust me, it does... Lets wrap up.

Thats all... For now ;)
I hope you g
ained some knowlage from this informative post. Mixing blocks is not a bad thing. Oak and spruce usually look good together.

Instead of the tonne of stairs, I recommend to mix up the palette or put some walls and fences in. A solid blog though
