If you are a newbie,(noobie) begging for fame in the planetminecraft community. You should read this blog!!! So the first thing we should discuss is what you are actually trying to accomplish. In this blog i will be covering Projects, and mods. And if you just need help publishing; I will be giving some tips on that too.
So let's get started with the easiest topic.

A Project. A project is when you come up with a great idea (such as, replicating big ben((not sure if someone did that lol))), and post it! You may post it because you need some help accomplishing it, or post it because you want others to download it. either way. The main factor for getting your project noticed, is Imagination. If you say you need help with creating a replica of the ENTIRE EARTH, you will get more attention, and help then if you say you need help making a replica of a tower of dirt. To get help all you simply need to do is Somewhere in the description make sure you let people know that you are looking for help. Another Factor of getting help on a project, is who helps you. Obviously you need a server, that can run decently fast. If you do not have one, then put "Need a trustworthy server runner" or something along those lines. Obviously, take time in deciding your server owner, you don't want a years work of progress getting lost because some five year old got grounded from the computer.
For picking helpers, you need to pick helpers who you work can work well with. Remember take your time choosing helpers, IM them or email them, get to know how they respond to you before you choose them simultaniously. Now, When you actually start the project you HAVE to %100 FOR CERTAINLY SURE make the helpers know that you are the absolute leader. Sure all of the helpers names will be mentioned in the credits of your project, but you dont want your project turning into one of your helpers, projects. Of course keep in mind, you don't wanna be a huge dick, better to have one helper griefing then 0 helpers at all! This is also a good reason to know your server runner very well. Sure you are op, and if someone is greifing, obviously you can banhammer them in the face, but if someone is modding; you may need the server owners help. (For publishing Tips see "Publishing")

A Mod. The word "Mod" is short for "Modification" so a mod literally means "A modification" but when talking in minecraft terms, it simply means to "cheat" or change the game in your own way.
I have made a couple of mods in my day, and i have learned a couple of things along the way. Mod Ideas are basically the biggest variable for getting your mod noticed. If you are stumped, try starting a project titled something similar to "Mod Ideas". Other then that not much to say about mod attention. Basically If it's original, and fun, It WILL be popular. But that doesn't mean that if it is pointless and stupid, it can't be popular. For example I made a mod called "Messed Up Mobs" All i did was fudge up the coding for the mobs and make them look retarded. After thirty minutes I was on the featured list. Because of 2 things; Originality, Fun (And in this situation a little stupid:)

Publishing. Releasing your (I'm gonna use the word) pack (pack= Mod or Project) there are certainly a lot of different variables that can easily make you a star, or make you a minecraft sponge. The first one (and most important) is
File Sharing. Sharing a file through a website; For example, if you wanted to share a mod. You would put this mod into it's own page on the website, And publish the link to that page. This is very important. It could be the difference between people hating you, and people worshiping you. if you want people to love you, then you do not want them waiting a "60 SECONDS UNTIL YOUR DOWNLOAD STARTS". I suggest you use adf.ly. that is what I use, and I know of a lot of other modders who also do. All you do is click the link to adf.ly.; wait five seconds; and then click "Download"! simple easy, and you get app. 5 bucks for every 1000 visitors. If you want people to respect you less, then you should use websites like "Megaupload" Where you have to wait 45 seconds for your download. Both provide the same amount of income (if you use adf.ly people will like you, and tell there friends about you, making you more dough) (if you use megaupload, people will still download your mod, but it will be advertised less). So you may be asking Then why should i use adf.ly? Well in my personal opinion, if you use adf.ly. you have more of a chance of getting that spark you need, to becoming a minecraft community hero, everyone respects you, and they love your content.

Websites.
If you are reading this then you are probably thinking about using planetminecraft.com to publish your mod to. Which i agree with completely. The system that this website uses is genius;
Reasons Why.
1.All new content is at the TOP of the list.
2.A good, inviting website.
3.And of course, Plenty of visitors.
But if you get enough visitors on planetminecraft.com Then i suggest you ALSO (don't remove your "pack" from planetminecraft.com) publish it to minecraft forums. For the Same reasons as planetminecraft.com
Getting Noticed.
Obviously, you want your content seen, and used. And I am only go into a few variables that will determine how many views you get.
Display.
This might just be the most important factor. You want the most different, un-normal, picture to represent your mod. Take my Retarded "Messed Up Mobs" mod for example. My front picture was a HUUUGEE eff'd up cow.
Comments.
You may be thinking. "Should I reply to that comment?","Wow that guys funny, should i say something back?" and maybe the only thing holding you back is the fact that you think that could ruine your image. But. Fact is, you want to interact with your followers, make them feel like they know you. This way, they will comment more, like more, and tell more friends!:D
Name.
For choosing a name, you simply want to...put it simply. In my opinion seeing something like "Messed Up Mobs Version {1.2.3.1.123.} For Update {1.8.1} AWESOME MUST SEE" is just eye-throbbing. This also ties to the "get to know them" (them being your downloaders) factor. If you make your title to long and to confusing, people will look at you as more of a bot then a friend. So keep it simple.
