As some of you may already know I have for the last four months been studying the fandom of the show My Little Pony FIM known as Bronies and somtimes for the female fans Pegasister (I hope thats the right Spelling) the following is my results



Objective: The purpose of this research was to answer questions 1. What is Bronydom 2. How has it spread so quikly and so prolificly and 3. most importantly are they different from every other kind of Fandom.

Results for Question 1: Bronies Typically are Males and quite often females between the ages of 10 through about 40 who watch and enjoy the latest incarnation of My Little Pony but anyone who reads this already knows this so I will be brief. This was the original reason that the bronies caught my attention due to the fact that they seemed to be an odd fanbase for such a show, and after studying them it still kind of is, but there is nothing wrong with that.

Results for Question 2: This was probably the most straight forward of the questions to answer since it mearly fact finding. The primary reason for the fandom rapid spread has to do with how good the show is to begin with and even though I watched it with the intent on hating it I found that it was actually halfway decent though definitly not the best show I have ever seen it was still enjoyable to a point. The second reason for its rapid spread seems to be the prolific nature of the brony fanbase with them pumping out literally hundreds of pony based fanart, fics, and videos semmingly every day.

Results of Question 3: In regards to any different from other fandoms the answer is a resounding no. Sure on the surface the gimick is different and that which they preach is different but scrap away that exterior and no different from any other fandom. This is due two reason one many have a tendency to obsess over it with at times even with what could be considered a religious vigor much like fans of other things sometimes do. This is not to say that all of them do this, but plenty of them do. The second reason is that some Bronies have a tendency to attack anyone who says or posts anything negative to their obsession or the fanbase even at times when the critism is valid or constructive.

Thoughts on Brony Haters: I have already touched on this subject in a previous blog post link is here http://www.planetminecraft.com/account/manage/blogs/372905/ but I thought I would take this oportunity to make a quik supplemental on this post in light of some new events that have taken place. Although I said in this post that I think attacking bronies is pointless I would like to say that this only to those who attack them for no reason and do not understand them first. This revelation comes after speaking with a few individuals who have attacked bronies in the past and learning there reasons for doing so. I have come to relize that the bronies are partially to blame for this due to there before mention tendency to attack negative comments.

Final Analysis: In conclusion I am left with the realization that Bronies are somewhat different from other fandoms due to the virtues thay preach in addition to the fact that this fandom is new and very vigorous, and that Bronies seem to have a seemingly disturbing ability to recruit new people into there ranks what they call the herd. Despites this however they are still very much like a lot of other fandoms in there devotion to there fandom. I know I seem a bit negative towards but this is really not the case since a lot of them really do practice what they preach. The problems with Bronies mostly stem from fake Bronies people who pretend to be Bronies because its popular and don't actually practice what they preach. I know that prevously I had said something else in this blog but after some soulsearching and and furthur research I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong to make such a hasty conclusion. In reality Bronies true Bronies are some of the most respectable people I've ever met on the internet and even offline. In fact it ispossible that in the future I might join them since I actually like the show This still leaves the problem of the fake Bronies who don't actually practice what the show preaches so I have to give the fake Bronies a different name one that will better identify them as fake Bronies. Therefore henceforth every fake Brony shall be known by the name of Brownie.
