Everyone who plays Minecraft online once thought about owning their own server for the simple reason that they could make it their own and customize it the way they see best. However not everyone is fit to run a Minecraft server. A server owner has to be dedicated and have a lot of time and knowledge about other things besides Minecraft. In this article I'm going to write about the common mistakes when owning a server and how to easily fix them.
Many people are In a rush to publish their server so they set up a quick spawn and let people join people join see that it's crappy and then they leave and never comeback
If there is a problem in your code or building fix it right away instead of releasing it and then having more downtime once it's up. Even if this means dropping yourself and testing everything out with a few friends first.
Ok, we get it your the owner if the server, no need to have 3 prefixes a long bolder name with fancy characters and a suffix the size of Texas .
It makes you look like you have no idea what you are doing, most people like me an tell just by seeing simple things like that, it can be an immediate turn off for some people. A simple owner or admin prefix will do, you don't need anything too flashy
If all you want is money don't own a server, it's not a get rich quick thing. People wouldn't go to a supermarket and pay a lot of money for a service that was just released and have no idea where it's future is headed.
Let them know that there is a place for donations and that they are greatly appreciated but don't shove it down their throats
If you have too many staff who's going to actually play the game?
encourage the staff to actively play with other players without using any op cheats
I've seen many servers expand their server to fit hundreds of players in when all reality they in,y have maybe 20-30 active players. Not only does it cost more money but if you stop getting that steady flow if players and donations you are back where you are left off any you may need to downgrade
Wait until you are sure you need the extra ram to upgrade and consider getting rid of a few plugins you don't need instead of upgrading right away
A lot of servers have a ton of plugins that have multiple uses but they don't know how to take full advantage of all of them so they go out and install a plugin just for a single service. For example why go out and install a teleport plugin when essentials already has that built into it.
Not only does plugins take up a lot of unneeded ram it can cause conflicts with other plugins causing them to be unstable and leading to server crashes. Read up on all of your plugins and make sure the plugins you currently have can't do what your looking for. And if you have two plugins and come across that can do the job of both do t be afraid to consolidate.
