This is a post on the affects of content-stealing, and also a run-down on how to use the flag/report button!
First off, what is content-stealing? Content-stealing is taking something that you didn't make/design, and uploading it as if you made it.
Secondly, what are the most susceptible ways of content-stealing? In order: Skins, Mods, Texture Packs (i've never seen a texture pack stolen, but it can be done, also, i've never seen a copied blog/server/project, so i didn't list them in the list of most susceptible ways of stealing)
What can we do? We can use the flagging system to report stolen content:
Run-down of using the Flag/Report system:
If you come across something that goes against the PMC rules, use the Flag/Report button, it is underneath the download button
What kind of flagging is there?
Mistake: If something is put underneath the wrong category (servers in mods, blogs in texture packs, for example)
Spam: Not putting effort into their post
Inappropriate: Self-Explanatory
Duplicate: Posting the same thing twice, making none/minor changes to it
Computer-Generated Content: Using a computer to generate content
Update Log Abuse: Using the Update Log for small changes to their work
Illegal: Goes against the American Law
Stolen / Plagiarized: Posting something that they did not make, and pretending its theirs
Contest Disqualification: Goes against the rules of the contest that it was entered into
Other: Doesn't fall under any other categories
and also, include a short summary of how the post broke the rules
One more thing, Moderators view the flag, and determine if it is a legitimate flag
See how easy it is!
Content-Stealing is evil, and is against PMC rules, but people do it WAY to often, its easy to download a mod, reupload it, and say its your own, skins are even worse
Example: I was looking through the recently updated/posted mods, looking for some, when i came across 2 versions of Trrnshows http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/120-new-things/ mod, it had the same cover photo, same mod, even same text (it was highlighted as if it was copied straight from the post) so i just used the flag button, and a moderator removed it!
also, using part-picker skinning programs, using parts of skins you didn't make, or using a shading template, are all also using things that someone spent a lot of time on.
If PMC didn't have a competent Moderator team, there would be twice the amount of copied posts, for every skin, there would be a copy of that skin, and PMC would deteriorate (YAY MODS!)
So in conclusion, don't post things you didn't make, and use the flag/report button to get rid of copied content, and don't run with your spears
