Hello! If you're like me, and you get easily confused by things, then converting 3D models into Minecraft probably seemed impossible before! However, I've managed to figure it out, and will record a very easy tutorial here! Enjoy!

Programs you will need:
Google Sketchup (only if he model you intend to use is a Sketchup model): www.sketchup.com/intl/en/product/newin8.html

Blender: www.blender.org/

MCedit: www.mcedit.net/

BinVox: www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Binvox#Download (Download the Binvox for your operating system)

Go ahead and install the first three programs listed above. For BinVox, follow these instructions:
1. Create a new folder on your desktop titled "Binvox"
2. Open the Binvox that you downloaded
3. Export the things inside to your new folder

Okay, now we need a model. For this tutorial, I'm going to use a model from Google sketchup. The model is below:
sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=c4d9d34fa734aa6ab5666ac9dae008e8&ct=mdrm

Load up the sketchup model in Google Sketchup. Once you've done this, click "File", then "Export", and export as a "3D Model". Make sure you save it as a Collada file (.dae). Save it as frigate.dae, and save it to somewhere you will remember, and exit out of Sketchup. Now load up Blender. Click "File", then "Import", and import your frigate.dae. Now don't panic if, in the window, you don't see the file. Most likely case is that it's so big, you would have to zoom out quite a lot to see it. Just press "File" again, but this time go to "Export", export it as a Wavefront (.obj), save it as frigate.obj, and export it to your Binvox folder on the desktop that we created at the beginning of the tutorial. Now, exit out of Blender.

Press the start button at the bottom left of your screen, and in the search bar, type "cmd", and press enter. This will open up a black window with white text. In the window, type:
"cd C:UsersyourusernameDesktopBinvox". (Be sure to include backslashes, they don't show up on blog posts)
This will open up the Binvox folder in your console. Now, type:
"binvox frigate.obj -t schematic".
You will start seeing text rapidly scrolling by on the screen. After a few seconds, a small window will appear at the top of your screen. This window is rendering the .obj into a .schematic file, which is compatible with MCedit. It will run for about a minute, depending on the size and detail in the model. Once the small window disappears, it is done.

Now load up MCedit. Load up the world you want, and get into a suitable location above the ground. Now, press the button that is 4 over from the right. This is the "import" button. Press it, and go to the Binvox folder on your desktop. Now, import the "frigate.schematic" file. It will put the file in the world. You may have to alter how it looks a bit (rotating, flipping, etc.), but once you have it how you like it, press enter. Now press ctrl+s to save, and exit out of MCedit.

Now if you load up Minecraft, and go into the world you selecting in MCedit, the schematic should be there. If not, go back a bit and make sure you followed all of the instructions properly.

If you are satisfied with the results, stop here. If you would like to resize (make larger or smaller) your schematic, read below.

In most cases, you will find that the schematic is either too big or too small. There is a very easy fix for this:
In MCEdit, after inserting your schematic, select the "clone" tool. Clone the schematic. Now, in the clone tool box (should be on the left of the screen), simple change the scale factor. When you finish the cloning, it should be larger or smaller, depending on how you scaled it. Save the world, and you're done!

I hope this helped everybody out! If you think pictures will help, comment and I will take a few for the tutorial. Happy crafting!

Hey, is there a limit to how big of a schematic this can create? I was planning on making realistic terrain using a terrain generator for an entire world and export it to .obj. I intend for it to be around 30,000 by 30,000 blocks.

Instead of resizing the object in mcedit you can change the voxel size in the cmd prompt by using the command -d e.g. binvox frigate.obj -t schematic -d <desired voxel size>
without the <> the default size is 256

Btw, I hope you aren't thinking we can post 3D-exported MC prokjects on PMC, because it's totally forbidden in the rules...

Bit off-topic, if the backslashes don't show up on pages, it is because of the PHP function "stripslashes", which intends to remove backslashes in case they show up when you don't want them. It is because backslashes are used to escape system symbols, such as the (double) quotes for string chains. Maybe you can double the backslash to blog posts. Like "C:UsersUserDesktopFolderSubfolder" (used it 2 times here, but you see only once)

Ok, sorry for the move-by-move updates but I figured out whats messing up. It is too big for blender, but when I export it from blender, all thats getting saved is the whole square of the graph, its not saving anything outside the range and domain of what blender goes to, and I don't know how to fix it because I've never used any of these programs lol

Hm... That's strange. Did you make sure to import it to Blender as a collada file, and to export as a wavefront? Blender sometimes has issues with file format, so make sure that you've gotten all of the types correct.

Yes, I opened it in sketchup and exported it as a collada, then imported it to blender with the same format, and exported it as an obj
