Why Teachers Should Not Give Kids Detentions
Teachers should not give students detentions. I strongly believe that getting detentions is bad for mental problems and educations problems. This is true because the so called o bad studentso will always keep on getting detentions. If detentions o dido work they should be decreasing, not rising as they have been. If you notice, the same people are in detention every year. This proves detentions do not work what so ever in the educational system.
Detentions give the students the wrong messages, such as: o We expect bad behavior from youo , o Control others or be powerlesso (which leads to bullying, also another big problem in America) o use blame and excuses to avoid the punishment o oro other people can control you; therefore they are responsible for your actions.
Problems at home cause most detentions. 80% of the people who are in detentions every day are child abused. 30% of them will commit a crime and 28% of them will be in jail when they are already over the age of 14. Poverty for a child could lead to a bad attitude, or resulting in stealing other kido s items because they cannot afford them. Their parents could be drug addicts or released criminals and would create a negative home atmosphere for the child
Why cano t children just behave? Children do not have this morbid sense of just wanting to misbehave. They misbehave of bad parents and/or bad teaching. If youo re a teacher and your giving students detentions every day, result in fun concepts of being extremely nice to the child, parenting is also a huge responsibility for the parents if youo re a teacher and you have tried everything, contact their parents and see whato s going on.
Always do backgrounds check if before giving the detentions, if the childo s family is a low income family, provide education, not punishment.
