After long tiring hours of adventuring and slaughter, you finally find it. At long last you are able to save your generated world from sheer terror. You create a spiral staircase down to your destination: a stronghold. Further and further you go until you see it. That final block till you drop into a room where you can complete your quest. You mine the stone brick but then suddenly a small creature pops out. One swing of your sword and it's dead. But then you hear a noise coming from behind you: a sound of a block breaking. Another one had just popped out. You decide not to waste the durability of your diamond sword on it seeing as they are so weak and you hit it with but a fist. More and more of them were coming out of the blocks every single time you hit one. You take your sword out realizing what a mistake you had made and hack and slash but it's too late. There's too many of them. Having to see your house once again, knowing your items are thousands of blocks away from you just makes you want to cry. All that work for nothing.
Now really you would think Silverfish are annoying little bi**** who deserve every single little of damage they get. That's not always the case. Silverfish are actually lovely little peaceful things. They are caring for each other and hate seeing one another being attacked. If one is attacked they let out a signal. Like a little vibration that goes through every block till a certain radius. This vibration is so small that you don't notice it. But the other Silverfish do. Once they receive a vibration they spring to life and follow where it comes from. Once found, they lunge at the enemy until they are dead. Once dead they scurry away back into their dens. Now they don't always do this. No, normally they will just stay in their block until destroyed. Only then will they attack.
On the other hand, when they aren't disturbed, they sit around in stone, comforting one another and making sure every one of the group is safe.
So next time you go to a stronghold and find a Silverfish nipping at your boots, don't kill it. Just jump into the portal.

Now you are probably thinking: "i don't want to do that every single time!" so here is a shortcut:
If you are using an iron pickaxe or higher count how long it takes to break a normal block of stone, and if you mine silverfish stone it will take longer to mine out. You can use a stone pickaxe but there is only like 0.5 mining time difference.
