Introduction

Long story short, Mojang is updating their EULA which basically state server owners can not make money off of their servers: plugin devs can not sell their work either, same goes for GFX artists. They can accept donations, but they also state server owners can sell things like pets, or sparkley effects. Things that do not alter gameplay.

The new EULA is not clear enough first of all. Secondly, people making money off of servers, plugins, art, staff, etc. are no longer able to do this, but havent these things led to the expansion of Minecraft. Minigames have been developed, great servers have been created. The list goes on!

Everything has led to another because we were left alone whilst making money off of our servers (illegally, always remember that, thats why Mojang CAN do what they are doing). Most Owners use their money to expand their servers, and/or to live off of. A few things that cost money, Ddos protection, Expert Staff, Custom Plugins, Quality Graphics, Professional website, Advertisements, and the damn server itself. Servers can survive off donations... Yea kinda. For a little while. They will die eventually.

Some people like myself have dedicated countless hours, days, weeks, months, and years into servers, plugins or whatever this EULA changes for you. Our work means nothing because we can no longer do what we have been doing. Its been ruined by a select few that scam, overprice, or both. Minecraft is where it is.. MOJANG is where it is because of its money making community, if they take that away, they are hurting themselves.

Personal Experience

I have ran servers for 2 and a half years, played Minecraft for nearly 4 years. With this I have spent countless hours of MY life into this game. Servers are a hell of a lot of work. I would spend most of my days working (I actually still do its just summer vacation): Wake up, go to school, head to work, work on my server, sleep, repeat. I love working on my server, but if I can not make money from it I will no longer waste my time doing so.

I have players that look forward to playing my server everyday, even while they are at school, so I know for sure that other servers have the same type of players. Now think of the people that spend money on these servers, if those servers go down, their money was wasted. My staff and I have put so much work and money into our servers its amazing actually. Then you have tons of people like me. Then you have tons of people that do more than I do, like the Owners of servers like Gontroller, Mineplex, Hypixel. These servers would be nothing if they had not made money off of their servers. You think their plugins just appeared? You think their Ddos protection is free? You think their servers are free? You think their websites are free? You think their excellent staff just devote their lives there for free? I could go on but you must get the point by now.

Companies/Websites depend on money making Minecraft servers, I.E. BuyCraft, Enjin, Bukkit, Spigot, Minecraft Hosts.
Some people even rely on the money they make from their servers. For others its some extra income. Personally, I save a lot of money for college, I take a portion of my monthly earnings and deposit it into my savings account VIA PayPal. I make more money from my server than I do at my actualy full time job at Dunkin Donuts, now that may be a factor in why they are having this EULA update, but let that effect me when it does, do not alter your ways now because adults who cant keep their cards safe from their kids are flooding your support.

People do too much, but at a cost and that cost is made up for by accepting Payments. If this EULA update really takes place then my server will cease to exist, my players will be upset, the Youtubers who record on my server will have to start somewhere new, the people I pay for their services/plugins will be hurt financially, my staff and I's time will have been pointless, my host will lose a well paying customer, but do not forget, I am one out of thousands of server owners.

What can you do

I ask that you guys sign this petition (http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/mojang-change-your-eula#share) which is not started by me, but I am a major supporter of the petition. Also ask your friends to sign this petition

I also ask fellow server owner to participate in Operation Blackout (www.operationblackout.net) which again, isnt started by me, I'm just a heavy supporter.

Operation Blackout

"WHAT'S OUR PLAN?
We want Mojang to revert the recent changes made to the EULA. In Minecraft Beta we were allowed to monetize everything we made, but now, not even a single plugin. We want to shut down all servers for a few hours on the day Mojang enforces the new EULA. If someone tries to join the server, he'll be kicked with a message to share this websitem sign the petition and tweet to @MojangSupport

WHEN ARE WE DOING THIS?
We're going to start Operation Blackout on August 1st 2014, on this day, Mojang will enforce the new EULA with horrible changes which will destroy the community and their servers.

There're also participating over 230 servers Operation Blackout. But, what's Operation Blackout exactly?

Operation Blackout is an operation to whitelist all servers which participated on August 1st 3PM BST for 2 hours. In those 2 hours, the server will be whitelisted and people will receive the message about Operation Blackout to stop Mojangs EULA and ask them to sign this petition."

I support eula. I dont think its fair that servers can sell packages that over-power those who do not pay. I'm very glad mojang has passed EULA and support mojang completely.

I only semi-support the EULA. Mojang is where it is because they allowed us to make money from their game. You have to look at the downsides of this.
