Feedback: Why Bother?
Introduction
This is the sequel to my blog Why Not Diamond? This time, it's about feedback. Feedback is a wonderful thing, Used correctly, it can turn a bad submission into a good one. Used incorrectly, it can encourage bad submissions and ruin somebody's day. Not given at all, it can discourage further good work. In other words, whenever you see a submission, you should try your best to give feedback.
Methods of Giving Feedback
Giving feedback is incredibly easy. You can give it by: Commenting.
Diamonding, favoriting, and subscribing give only a positive response. They tell the recipient that you like their product, and no more. However, feedback is far, far more versatile. It can tell somebody why you like their post, or why not. If you do not like a post, you can give a comment.
How to Leave a Comment
Good feedback is more than just a couple words. o You sucko or o Great!o is not feedback. Feedback must give input. When giving feedback, you should put thought into your comment. If you like the work, then tell them why you liked the work, and what they can improve on. If you didno t like the work, tell them why not, and tell them how they can improve. Make sure to make your comment polite, and not overly offensive or attacking. Doing so will not result in any good. All it will do is make the recipient less likely to listen to the comment.
Why Bother?
If you give valuable feedback, it will encourage the recipient to listen, especially if said feedback is thoughtfully given. Feedback can help turn the entire community into a better place. All over the place, people complain about bad work. However, by giving feedback, that bad work may yet become good.
