In This Post i will be telling you about advertising your server!



Tips:

I recommend posting your server in anyway you can on any site, but i highly recommend PlanetMinecraft's server area and forums in the server section.

Make sure there is not a server that has the same IP address as yours if it does you will have to report it and get it removed so you can post yours.

Post many pictures and possibly a video with your server (it will draw more people to your server).

Make sure you make your server as presentable as possible before posting or no one will want to go on your server if it looks like you just put random things in random spots.

If you are an Admin on a server and you want to post the server you will NEED permission from the Owner of the server to post or they will not be happy when they try to post it but their server is already on here.

Also Double check all of the stuff before posting because obviously if you post the wrong IP no one will join your server (i also recommend TRIPLE checking).

If you post in the servers section in the forums i would make your tile detailed for example: EXAMPLE SERVER [RPG] [PvP] [BUILDING] [HUNGERGAMES] [BUKKIT]

In forums i also HIGHLY recommend offering something for the first 10 or 20 people that join, for example a drop party or 20 free diamonds, etc.

I would get the votifier plugin, it lets people vote for your server and they get stuff.

After-Post tips:

Update your post after every slightest change to keep the people updated (you can only update every 24 hours)

Post in forums again if you want more people because your post isnt getting much views.

When you update your post also update your pictures and video to make it very current.

Post the website for your server in the description and bold it so people stay updated with the site so they know whats happening on the server.

I would post many other things on planet minecraft so you get well known so you get more views on your server post which gives you more people.

Tips for recruiting staff:

Make requirements for recruiting... from personal expericences do not accept people that just started the game or people that have been staff of 20+ servers because that means they do not know how to handle a lot of people or are not good with people and plugins. (there could be exceptions for the 20+ servers if they have been on since the game started)

DO NOT accept everyone whos application seems good... make a deadline of like a week then look at the apps and accept the ones whos apps are perfect because you dont want 20 admins unless you are planning on being a server with 500 slots.

I would invite the people into a small bukkit server and test their skills to make sure they werent lying because people tend to do that. (make sure you whitelisted the bukkit server so they dont invite a ton of people)

Definitely DO NOT say the IP in the recruitment Description. (you can if you have it whitelisted but it is not recommended)

You want to make sure you make the description and the application VERY detailed to get the best people because people who are just trying to hop between servers and are trying to destroy them wont do a VERY long and detailed application.

MAKE SURE you have anti-cheat plugins and i highly recommend core-protect (it allows you to rollback griefed areas within a certain range and time period)
