I've seen more and more posts about "fake girl gamers" and "know the difference". The way I see things when it comes to "girl gamers" now'a days, is that, it doesn't matter. I was reading a blog post about how if you have a controller in your mouth, and slutty clothes on, it automatically makes you "fake". The way you dress, and the way you act around a console should not determine how much of a gamer you are. A "real gamer" means someone who plays video games. If you are a girl, and you play video games, that makes you a gamer. Not a "gamer gurl". We don't call guys who play video games "gamur guyz" so why should women be discriminiated and harrased for playing video games?
For years this has been a non-stop talked about topic, and hopefully it will soon come to an end of equality and giving no shits about the gender of the gamer, and more about the actual game. Interestingly enough, I came across a sub-reddit devoted to girl gamers. I was so pissed that someone would WANT a sub reddit devoted to "girl gamers". I understand why, but what I don't understand is, why isn't there a sub-reddit devoted to gamers in general, instead of this?
I've also come across the problem of a lot of gamers who happen to be girls, trying to make it SO obvious that they are girls. Recently I've come across these gamers whos usernames are things like "Cupcake<3" or "UnicornPrincess" or "ThatGirl*insertfirstnamehere*". Like, are you actually good at the game or are you making these accounts JUST for attention? I LOVE the girls that just don't care. They don't even tell people they are girls, unless someone asks them why there voice is so high, or something relating to that.
I also come across boys who either don't care, or are extremely rude. The first time I talked in voice chat on garrys mod, I was called an 8 year old boy, a sqweaker and to shut up. I'm sorry I was BORN with a high pitched voice, but do you have to be a dick about it? I never usually talk on games like that anymore for the same reason. I have met so many cool guys from Garrys mod though, but people like that just build up my social anxiety even more.
Anyways, this is getting a bit out of hand. If you have any comments/questions feel free to type them down below or message me privately. I hope this blog post makes a bit of sense, though I had all this anger built up from reading "gurl gamer" blog posts most of the day.
Thanks for spending a fraction of your time reading this, sorry if this was a "disappointment of a blog post". I rarely make blog posts unless it something bothering me quite a bit.
EDIT: Also, take this into consideration. The gaming community consists of 49% females. Yet, a couple of female gamers get harrased for playing? Like, Just because 2% more males play video games, make us a target for being "bad at the game", "get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich", and other sexist remarks? Some guys need to grow up, and face the fact that women can beat your a** at any game.
Anyone, and I mean anyone can learn how to play a video game like a pro, no matter your gender.
But most guys are drooling over some MLG female gamers? (Again, not saying all guys are like this, some guys are extremely cool about it and I overly respect that.)
EDIT: Enraric says: "The issue is with internet culture, unfortunately. If you look at the way female characters are dressed, protrayed, etc in games, it's clear that the gender has been dehumanized and objectified. Hence the sexism."
I decided to put this into the blog post, just because I feel not enough people understand what the creators of video games have done to "dehumanize and objectify" women in such a way. It's basically disgusting how revealing and sexist these female video game characters are. I feel that is a BIG reason that the topic of "girl gamers" keeps being brought up over the years.
It’s undeniable that the culture of video games has a history of misogyny and is arguably a boy’s club to this day. This is hardly a unique observation, and while it’s easy to point at some of the more obvious offenders such as the evolution of jiggle physics, scantily-clad women in fighting games, and by-the-numbers “rescue the princess/your girlfriend”
To be honest this kind of sexism bothers me the least because at least you know what you’re getting into right from the start. It’s on the damn cover. It’s exploitative and built for a specific audience and is a sad commentary on a subset of the gaming audience.

I was in a call with a guy once for a long time, and later he didnt ven know i was a girl! i was laughing about it for like 10 mins and the only time i care about the fact that im a girl on MC is when people (There was this one guy on a server >:(_ he left because i was a girl, he yelled "ASHFURS A GIRL, IM LOGING OFF FOREVER!" but with like no grammer :( thats my story
Whats also annoying, is girl gamers who love eachother (AkA they are "gay") Thats not generally what I'm saying is annoying, but people use the fact that they play the game AND are girl gamers, BUT love eachother, and/or is married.
(I'm actualy happy that Skyrim doesn't discriminate "gay" love, like you can be a boy and marry a boy, or a girl and marry a girl.)
I am NOT saying that if someone asks your gender, and you reply "Female", that that is the same as stated above.
One prime example is the League of Legends team "SIREN". The team consisted of five female individuals, who would mostly talk about how they were women playing a video game, as if it were a huge accomplishment, on par to that of finding the "Theory of Everything". I'm NOT saying that there should not be any female-only teams on Leauge of Legends, but I AM saying that they should not be hung up on that they are women, instead of the game itself.
TL;DR :
It doesn't matter if your gonosomes are XX or XY, you're still, mostly, the same, and you both play games, so don't get all "brodcasty" about your gender, just move on.
Also, if you are some type of nonhuman ; xeno-organism, mecha-organism, fauna, or flora, you should probably just stop. Please.
I also don't like the fact that the majority of League of Legends champions are misogynistic looking and very.. "open".
Why can't the female champions have the same wardrobe as the male champions?
(Excluding Leona who, does have armour and looks tanky but she is a support and supports wear armour and.. yeah.)
