"The Nether is not a place that should be pilfered, civilized, or explored.
The Nether is a place of death. The nether is a burning graveyard.
They say that it used to not be this way, that it can still come back to the glistening city of glowstone and gold that it used to be. They are wrong.
'Some portals should not be entered,' I say, 'some dimensions should not be crossed.' But nobody ever listens to me, do they?"

"I wonder who might dare to intrude this time," I muse to myself as I stare at the Obsidian Gate, the Door of Dimensions. The door that should be in ruins just like the rest of this place was.
Nobody would ever call the Nether a ruin. They often think that ruins have rubble and corpses, but the Nether does not show any of those things. Rather, the Nether shows lava, strange red ground, glowing rocks, soul-sand, still-standing nether fortresses, the walls surrounding a place with no sky or sun. The only light came from the lava that flowed in the hot, hellish ruins that I was the guardian of.

I am the sole living being of my homeland, the Nether. The other citizens who lived here before the Withering now wander as charred skeletons, slaves of their new master, the Wither, and are here to kill those who intrude upon their graves. As for the rest of the people, they currently shamble around as cursed, zombified pigmen, holding tarnished gold swords that used to glisten.
I am the only survivor of the Withering. I had stood back and watched as everyone else died. I had listened to their screams of agony. I had watched their corpses fall onto the soil. I had watched them rise again to serve the one who destroyed them.
I had done nothing.
I was a coward.

I should have died with them, I often think. It is unfair that I am the only living of my people.

To pay the price for my cowardice, I have sworn an oath to guard the Obsidian Gate and prevent explorers from coming into the nether to defile it. In summary, I do the same things as the wither skeletons, except I request the explorers to leave first, and if they do not, I kill them. The explorers hardly ever take the request.

I watch as two new intruders come through the portal, setting my hand on the bloodstained blade on my waist. I wait to reveal myself, for maybe they would turn away at the sight of the disgusting, hellish place that used to be my home.
They looked around the place, but not in fear. Rather, in fascination.
"This place is amazing, Alex!" The male intruder says to his female companion. "We need to record this place! We could civilize it! We could find so many things!"
"Civilize it?" Alex laughed, "no. We could take some of these materials and use it to power our own civilization. Or.. we could explore it to see if there is already civilization here."
I jump down from my vantage point, treading across the red, blood-colored floor, turning to face them. "I cannot allow that. Please turn away, intruders." I say in a steady voice, repeating the same words I have said so many times, the same words I have said before killing so many.

They are intruders. They deserve to be killed.

"Leave?" The woman, Alex, says in an offended tone. "You're asking us to leave?"
"Why should we do that?" Steve inquired, "we have found new land! We are trained explorers, we know how to face all sorts of zones!"
I could have laughed at their ignorance, they really did not know anything, did they? "Once again, I cannot permit your entrance into the Nether. You must leave this place immediately or I will have to kill you." I gesture to my bloodstained blade, which I now took out of its sheath.
"You think you can kill us with that?" Steve says, gesturing to his diamond sword and armor, clearly thinking that the diamond would be enough to protect him. "I'd like to see you try." He unsheathes his diamond sword, and Alex does the same.
"I apologize for your ignorance." I hold out my great blade, my hands trembling as they always did when I had to take another life.
I came at the two of them, and they both moved to attack me with their swords, as expected. "You humans are so predictable." I dodge their swings and jump over them, landing on the soul sand behind them. Before they could react, I swing my blade through the small slit in between their helmets and their chestplates, and decapitated them. Their heads and bodies both fall, bloodstained, onto the nether floor.
I shake my head in disappointment. Why does everyone have to be this way?
I drag their bodies to the edge of the red nether platform, and toss them into the lava below, as I always did when I had to kill someone for their ignorance and stupidity.
I will most likely have to do this until all of humanity is extinct, for I am immortal, only to die from physical damage. I have not died yet, nor I do plan to.

I walk back to my vantage point and gaze down at the nether.
Ghasts flew by, ignoring me, wither skeletons walk by, not even taking notice of me, same went for the pigmen. Magma cubes hopped along, as they usually did, and blazes guarded their fortresses from intruders that would most likely not come while I still stood here. Normally, all of these monsters would notice or kill humans on sight, but not me, for I would not even consider myself human anymore.
They do not know if I am a threat or not, but they know me just as a normal piece of the Nether, just like soul sand. I stare at the sunless ruin that used to be my home, illuminated by lavalight and glowstone.
I sigh and ask myself the age-old question I have always asked myself: what I could have done to prevent things from ending up like this?

The End. (For now, at least.)

This is just a random idea I had based on the nether, and I hope you guys liked it.
