[Guide] Server Growth and Development

Hello all and welcome to my blog about your own personal server growth and development. This blog/guide is to support you if you're a new server owner and wanted further understanding of basic principles to keep player interest and entertained when launching your own Minecraft Server.

Firstly, I'd like to touch on something very simple. And that is a basic theme. No matter what type of server you run a theme is always key. An example of this is that I've seen and reviewed so many Prison servers and they're all exactly the same. They all have the same boring mines, same style and same builds. It doesn't feel like I'm joining a server with a direction in which they want to take their community. On the brighter side of this there are a few servers that do this perfectly. One server I am going to mention a lot throughout this blog is CastawayMC this server does next to everything perfect and is thriving because of that. Its Prison server is based around tropical islands and traversing and ranking up throughout the islands to eventually escape and head home. Its not like your generic prison server it actually has a theme and follows it and keeps players entertained in this way.

Tip 1: Have a Theme.

Secondly I'm going to talk about a plugin/mechanic that almost all server used nowadays. And that is Holograms. These can be used to both help your server and ruin it at the same time. A lot of new communities use holograms terribly and not in the right way at all. I'm going to talk about how to use them right and give an example which again comes from CastawayMC.

Here is a screenshot of good Holograms and underneath is why it is good.

[Guide] Server Growth and Development

This is a perfect example of how to do a hologram and here's why. They display their colours and use them as an informative way to guide and give the players goals and aims. Below I'm going to list and go through each colour and explain how its used and why it's great!

Blue - This is their alternative instead of using white and relates to being on islands as it goes alongside the oceans colour.

Yellow/Gold - I joined these two together in this section because that is their servers Colour scheme for logos and so fourth. Also related to sand/gold (pirates life)

Red - They inform you that you've been shipwrecked and colour it red to show a danger and/or hazard and that you are in a situation you don't want to be in.

Pink - This is used on Mysterious to give it a magical effect as if to relate it to there being more in the world that you don't know of and to make you want to adventure out and find anything/everything out.

Green - The green text is used as a objective/goal colour. They use it to inform you of the tasks you could and should be doing to progress.

Yelow - The yellow on the adventure text on the bottom is used to both resort back to their main server colour scheme but to also relate to beyond the horizon as if you're watching the sunrise throughout the ocean and to set you fourth on you're own journey.

These are excellent ways to use colours and to share as little information whilst being direct and telling your players what to do. As soon as I join and see this type of text I look in to it deeply and understand everything I'm working towards and doing.

Tip 2: Display Information Correctly using Holograms

The Third Tip for you all is to use voting to your advantage. All servers should be posted on many many minecraft server list sites and should all having voting enabled in order for players to gain rewards on your server.

Some examples of rewards you can give for voting are listed below.

+ Vote Ranks
+ Voting Crate Keys
+ In-game Currency
+ Hall of Fame/Hologram name Displays
+ Extra Commands/Permissions

All these simple things can be given to players as a reward for voting. So do it! It gives the players incentive to vote and stick around to earn the goodies! But make sure your vote rewards are worth it! If they're not then nobody will vote.

Tip 3: Voting and Rewards are Needed!

My Fourth Tip for you all is a Server Trailer. Work on a Cinematic trailer or host a community trailer competition to help grow your server. If your server has a good trailer then people will see it and want to join and experience it their selves. Get shaders, use the Replay Mod and make cinematic trailers to help boost the amount of interest in your server!

You can also add a feature where if someone likes and shares your trailer they get a reward so that they are helping you spread the good word, which in this case is your server!

Heres an example!

Tip 4: Server Trailer

Here we go! A Fifth tip for yall! YouTubers. You might run a small server but following the steps above you should hopefully have around 10 players consistently! At this point look for small YouTubers and see if they want to play on your server for a specific rank or for your servers support in their channel. A lot of small YouTubers might accept this opportunity and will happily play a game they love on your server. So reach out to a few people and see how they feel.

Tip 5: Reach out to Small YouTubers

My Final tip is going to be a short and simple one. This tip is....
EVENTS! Host events on your server each month. Most Cobblestone mined, mobs killed, diamonds collected, each month you can do an event like this and reward your players with a 1 month event rank if they win alongside an event crate key. This will help keep your players entertained and on the server for longer periods of time and might even prompt them to invite their friends.

And that's all my tips! Here they are listed below:

Tip 1: Have a Theme.

Tip 2: Display Information Correctly using Holograms.

Tip 3: Voting and Rewards are Needed!

Tip 4: Server Trailer

Tip 5: Reach out to Small YouTubers

Tip 6: Server Events!

If you wish to check out the server I talked about within this blog the IP is...
play.castawaymc.net
I'm not in association with this server in any way it just does a lot of things really well.

Furthermore, if you wish to support me in any way I would appreciate the support on my YouTube channel and socials listed below. Thank you!
