So, you've decided you're going to do it - you're making your own server.

As an experienced server owner, who has owned multiple servers since 2012 and finally settled down into a mature, stable server, I want to share with you some tips as part of a three-part series on how to make a successful server.

There is a few questions you MUST ask yourself when you decide to make a server.
1. Why am I making a server?
This may be one of the most important part of making a server. All too often I see people making a server solely because they'd be the 'Owner', the boss, the Alpha Male, the top dog. This will land you with a waste of paid hosting. No-one is going to play.
You have to think about why you're doing it some possibilities are to; make new friends, learn more about coding, watching people enjoy your work, and many others.
If you have a LEGITIMATE reason to why you're making a server, you're already a good start ahead of a lot of other servers that are being created.

2. What is the payout?
No, I don't mean money. What I mean by this is what's going to happen when you're done making it? Are you going to just not improve it and hope players enjoy it? This is another really important question you've gotta answer for yourself in order to make a successful server.

So, on to the nitty-gritty:
3. What sets you apart from the other thousands of servers out there!?
This may be perhaps the MOST IMPORTANT question out there. Way to much I see another Factions server, or a new hub with skyblock, skywars, survival games, and OP factions. <---- STAY AWAY FROM THOSE!
You really HAVE to come up with your own idea, or else people will just play on the better version of your server! Why the heck would they play your two person factions server?!

This concludes the first part of my three part series on how to run a successful server. Sub? Diamond? Thanks!
