Hello! I've had this idea for the longest time, and have even asked grim3212 to try to make it. (he's stuck on a certain feature, but he's working on it!) basically, the idea is hammers. Hammers would be crafted from six items of a material (wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond) in the first two rows, and and a stick in the bottom middle slot:

The hammer would do the same damage to blocks as an axe of the same material would, and it would break any block (except for unbreakable blocks like bedrock and portals)the pick of its kind can break instantly. one tap of left mouse. the catch? the block does not drop an item. It is destroyed forever. also, diamond is the only hammer capable of destroying obsidian and wood hammers cannot break materials stone and above.. what use would this be, you ask?
EXAMPLE 1
you are just starting out. you only have simple iron tools, and want to make a room underground. it could take an hour or more to clear oiut a large room with a pickaxe, or 5-10 minutes with a hammer. also, with a pick, you have 20 large chests full of cobblestone that you probably will never use. with a hammer, there is no such buildup.
EXAMPLE 2
you need some lava, and the only pit you've found was in a ravine, and it was covered with obsidian from waterfalls. you don't really need the obsidian for anything, so you could either take hours to mine it witha pick, or simply use a diamond hammer to destroy it like it was nothing.
EXAMPLE 3
you made a large mob trap that doesn't work as well as you originally thought. now you want to build a farm there, but there's a huge, ugly, useless mound of blocks in the way. a pick would be tedious and time-consuming. a hammer would be quick and painless.
BALANCE:
but goreae! such a tool would be grossly overpowered! well I beg to differ. you do not get any items back from breaking blocks, causing you to lose resources. if you try to strip mine with it, you will accidentally break tons of valuable ores. you also cannot break through obsidian with a hammer until you get six diamonds. a hammer is worth twice that of a pick, but has the same durability and nets you no resources. also, the extra damage caused is not an issue, because it costs 3 times as much as a sword does, and twice of an axe, making it useless and expensive in combat.
emeber to leave a diamond if you like the idea!
