Step 1: What type

There are lots of RPG types. There are Sci-fi (Man i hate those), Post Apocalyptic, Fantasy, Medieval etc...

I will be mostly talking about Medieval and Fantasy maps.

What type to choose?

Choose the one you like the most and can build the best. If you like space and science, go with Sci-fi, If you like to build destroyed buildings then go with Post Apocalyptic, and so on...

Step 2: The Name and the Story

The name is also very important.

Tell me, witch one of these sounds better?: Silver Swords of 7 Kings or minecraft huge rpg map.

Yeah, choose the first one. Also the name has to make sense and be connected to the Adventure map. You can't name a map Silver Swords of 7 Kings and make it about Golden Axes and villages.

Step 3: It doesn't need to be very huge

This one thing is see alot, huge RPG adventure maps that the creator will cancel in one update. Most of them are becouse of the Elder Scrolls, Legend of Zelda, Lord of the rings/Hobbit. . I see alot of people make maps about them or make them inspired by them. Make something up yourself and make it good, not huge.

Step 4: Get Mcedit and learn basic redstoning

Mcedit can help you alot, It can help you make diffrent potions, All sort of gear with names and lore, Mobs with gear, potion effects and diffrent stats and even more. All are made by one man: Sethbling. Go check him out on Youtube.

There are also tons of other people making Mcedit Filters.

There isnt much to say about redstoning, just learn it.

Step 5: Investigate other RPG maps

Step 6: Use your Fantasy

Like always, RPG maps need alot of fantasy. Of course you can just build epic buildings and just stick a RPG name on it, but you don't really have to waste much time on buildings when you have alot of Fantasy. Always think creatively.
