Herro, SlimeCraftPBJ here and today I'll be explaining how to be a decent staff member. If you're staff on a server and need some tips on how to improve your performance as staff or a server owner who wants to set some guidelines to make their staff better, I have some amazing (insert sparkles here) advice!

Da Basics :3
First off, let's start with the basics. Their are a few basic things a staff member should do, depending on their position. Below is a list of the common positions as a staff member and their jobs.
1. Bread
Oh, whoops...That's the shopping list...Uhh...Ah! Here's the list we need.
1. Helper
The Helper is not as common of a rank on servers as Moderator and Admin, as some servers skip the rank. I'm not a server owner, but I suggest having some Helpers around which will then later be promoted to Moderator. You can tell that they're fit for Moderator if you have them as a Helper for a while.
Anyways, a Helper, as their name implies, helps users. They answer any questions users may have, and punish users that break the rules.
2. Moderator
Moderators moderate the server (bad pun :P) like Helpers do, but they have a few more advanced commands and some handle hackers.
3. Admin
Admins do what the previous two ranks do, but they help with even more. They handle all kinds of rule breakers and questions, and recover lost possessions or permissions.
Okay, now that you have an idea of what you as staff should be doing, or what your team of staff's job is, make sure they're doing their job. A staff member that doesn't do their job, isn't good.
Handling Situations
There are many different kinds of situations that staff will be dealing with, let's begin with the simple ones.
1. Bans
There are users that break the rules, they occasionally receive a ban from the server. Now, let's talk about pizza because I'm hungry reasoning. When you ban someone, make sure to include the reason and make sure it's a good reason. You can't simply ban someone because
"Lel, I wunna bna u so I did. lel"
The reason above is plain abusive, you don't do dat. You can't ab00se your players of you're a *sniff* horrible...Horrible...Staff member. *Depressing violin music* Okay, maybe not that bad. Seriously though, it's abusive and you're not going to be a decent staff member like that.
"Umg u beat meh in Spleef so Imma ban u nao 4 hax"
With this one, I'm going to make another point. Don't ban anyone without strong proof, don't listen to a player if they don't have a screenshot or video. If someone is beating everyone at a mini-game, maybe they just have skills. Get proof if you think otherwise. With proof, your ban will be reasonable and understanded. I don't mean if a user is literally destroying spawn don't take a picture and show the owner before you ban them, maybe take a picture before banning. But if you're sure that this user is doing something bad, act fast and ban them. But remember to have good reasoning.
"The Ban Hammer Has Spoken"
K...And...?
....
Well..? For what reason in particular?
Seriously, sometimes you're just banned and have no idea why. At least leave a short message to describe what I did, it can be 1 word.
"Spam."
Made a huge difference, right? Now I have at least an idea of why I was banned and don't have to figure it out. Makes a big difference, and a better staff member.
2. Recovering items and permissions
When a player says "I bought some spawners and a rank, but didn't get them." you can't immediately trust them. Make sure to ask for proof that they purchased said items, such as a screenshot of the items they lost or the receipt. Otherwise, you may be giving them free stuff.
3. Answering questions
Make sure to always answer questions asked by users, unless the question makes no sense. (Example: Why can't my dog be a celery stalk?)
